Hindu Goddess Swimsuit Sparks Outrage
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10 May 2011 | Margherita Stancati

Designer and model Lisa Burke presented the swimsuit as part of the latest collection of her Lisa Blue label at Australian Fashion Week Thursday.

But when pictures of an Indian-looking model wearing a one-piece swimsuit with a portrait of Lakshmi printed on its front and rear made their way to India, Hindu nationalists didn’t like what they saw.

Over the weekend, they took to the streets in several Indian cities, including Hyderabad where pictures show activists burning the Australian flag in protest against what they viewed as an act of deep disrespect.

Well, in fairness, in India they would not allow that.

I think it’s refreshing to see the outraged masses burning some other country’s flags for a change. They’re really stepping out of their comfort zones!

Which leads me to a great idea - or at least an idea... I think that we should have the CIA start creating blasphemous and outragous events all over the mideast and other stink holes of the world. However, they would all be attributed to another country, which would eventually take USA’s place as the great satan. It would be a lot of fun! Perhaps we could set up France? Canada? The duchy of Grand Fenwick? :)

Pretty smart idea! Maybe they could scatter it randomly around the globe, or pick some country like Paraguay that nobody can even find on a map anyway ... or Yugoslavia, which most people probably don’t know has disappeared ;-).

Oh go for the big payoff, and set up China. Heck they are going to be taking over from us in the Middle East, so we might as well ensure that they get a warm welcome. Heck pointing out to the Middle East types that all of the music, movies, revealing clothing, computers, and such have MADE IN CHINA stamped all over them.

Yeah, but what beautiful young woman would want to “hit” Laz is the real question.

All of those are excellent choices! Although I suppose setting up China as the next Great Satan *would* produce the biggest payback for the US, as GonzoGOP suggests.

China has been working to spread influence around the world while we’re occupied with Al Qaida in Iraq and Afghanistan, so they could use a distraction these days.

My opening gambit would be to distribute Muhommad urinal cakes all over the middle east, with large “Made in China” stickers on them... lol

The designer should have said it was a tribute to Jimi Hendrix’s second album.

I need to see that and a few more photos in order to determine my correct level of outrage.

no, they are insulting a religious image.

The real scandal is that we Christians put up with our feces decorated or bikini clad madonnas and crucifixes in urine.

Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity and fertility; embodiment of beauty, grace and charm.

And it's a nice, modest one-piece. Apart from the paganism, I like it.

Compare to this statue:
