Still pertinent today.

Made Cardinal in 1946 by Pius XII, died a few weeks later. Beatified in 2005 by Pope Benedict.

Woe to mankind, woe to our German nation if God’s Holy Commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill,’ which God proclaimed on Mount Sinai amidst thunder and lightning, which God our Creator inscribed in the conscience of mankind from the very beginning, is not only broken, but if this transgression is actually tolerated and permitted to go unpunished.

It is in fact more pertinent today, because today we tend to think that since we have a representative system of government and a Bill of Rights, the laws our government makes are somehow automatically valid. Not so. There is not only any obligation to obey the anti-life laws our government makes, but there is the opposite obligation to resist them.

This homily, slightly reworded for current leaders is a commentary for our present age.

Unacceptable. It should be circulated as originally delivered.

And woe to the future generation of the euthanasia practioners, too.

Great homily. I love the fact that the Cardinal had the audacity to proffer criminal charges. I wish some of our current clergy would consider doing the same.
