Episcopal Parish in Bladensburg Converts to Roman Catholic Church
The Washington Post ^ | 10/9/11 | J. Freedom du Lac and Michelle Boorstein

The Rev. Mark Lewis awoke early on the last morning of his life as an Anglican priest and dressed in a suit and tie instead of his usual priestly regalia. That’s different, he thought, for the first of many times on a day when so much was different for St. Luke’s, the small Episcopal church in Maryland where Lewis had been rector since 2006.

On Sunday — with Lewis wearing lay clothing and sitting with St. Luke’s parishioners inside the Crypt Church at Washington’s Basilica of the National Shine of the Immaculate Conception — most of the parish from Bladensburg converted to Catholicism.

In doing so, St. Luke’s became the first Episcopal church in the United States to convert under new Vatican rules meant to attract disaffected Protestants.

“This truly is a historic moment,” said Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl, the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, who led Sunday’s conversion Mass, which he called “a joyful moment of completion.”

Fifty-eight of St. Luke’s roughly 100 parishioners were confirmed at the applause-filled Mass, during which they were anointed by Wuerl — one by one, old and young, white and black.

Osita Okafor, a 56-year-old Nigerian immigrant, found himself first in line before Wuerl for the rite of reception. His reaction? “Oh, my God, I must be blessed.”

Like many members of St. Luke’s, Okafor is an immigrant from Africa — in his case, Nigeria. Many others are from the Caribbean.

With Africans and folks from the Caribbean making up much of the crowd it sounds like it's a rejection of the Gayward Drift!

Eventually the Episcopals will go the way of the Shakers ~ a bunch of old people, no heirs, no new blood ~ and then poof! They're gone.

Many have gone to the Roman Catholic Churches to Worship Mary. I suppose they will begin praying to her (instead of God) and saying the Rosary soon.

The Episcopal Church around here is the most liberal of all churches. The Pastor even flies the gay pride flag under the U.S. flag.

If you knew anything about the rosary, which you obviously don’t, you would realize that the rosary commemorates Christ’s life, death and resurrection.

If ignorance is bliss, you must be one of the happiest people at FR.

No Catholic worships Mary. As a good Christian I would hope that you would be obedient to the Commandment forbidding false witness and recant your false statement.

Actually sir, the Episcopal church has their own version of the Rosary from what I am told. Had they been praying it I honestly believe they would not be in the mess they are in now!! I guess they did not get Our Lady of Fatima’s message!! As did you, nor will you ever for that matter. Pity.

Ha, I've seen the cathedrals to Mary in Italy. She is described in Roman Catholic Literature as a Co-Matrix and Co-Redemptrix. And you expect her to hear your prayers (something only God can do). You believe all grace comes from her, ignoring the passages where the Scripture says that Grace and Truth came by the Lord Jesus Christ alone.

Her statues are worshiped with people bowing down to them.

I'm not fooled.

“I’m not fooled. “

Catholics believe Mary is the Mother of God, Jesus, the second person of the Trinity. Jesus said ‘Behold thy Mother’. Catholics regard Mary just as Jesus did. Jesus was not fooled.

If an angel came to give another Gospel I would not listen to it. The Lord Jesus Christ alone is the Good News, that He came, died upon the cross for the sins of folks like you and I, and then was Raised from the Dead securing the Resurrection of Believers in Him alone.

Pity those who "will die in their sins" because they will not believe that "I am He" just as He said. Pity those who take on false gospels and idols. Who are distracted by people or imagined people, in this a false Mary.

For what did Mary say? She said "My Soul Rejoices in God My Savior". Acknowledging her sinful nature and need for the Savior which she bore.

It was she who said "Whatever He says, do it" regarding the Lord Jesus Christ. Pointing to him as Lord and No One Else.

She awaits with all the rest of the Dead in Christ, the Resurrection and Marriage supper of the Lamb. And she will give Him all the Glory for the good works He did through her, casting down her crown before His feet.

Jesus said ‘Behold thy Mother’

He said this to the Apostle John, so he would fulfill his duty to his mother according to the Law.

Taking Scripture out of context is a sign of a cult.

I hope they bring their hymnals along with them. The old Anglican hymns are some of the most beautiful in the English language.

Right. Now you are on the right track. Keep thinking Mary was the Mother of God.

LOL. “Co-matrix” ... someone’s mixing their half-heard Latinized terms with their pop-culture, or their higher maths.

Being obsessed is its own reward. Let ‘em yap.

The co- Matrix(?) and co-redemptrix are NOT official policies of the Roman Catholic Church, but are being pushed by a small special interest group. This is sort of like stating that “dominionism” is the official policy of ALL protestant denominations instead of being an idea of a small group of protestants.
