Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon
Ensign ^ | October 2011 | Thomas S. Monson

Posted on 10/27/2011 7:27:20 AM PDT by Saundra Duffy

Many years ago I stood at the bedside of a young father as he hovered between life and death. His distraught wife and their two children stood nearby. He took my hand in his and, with a pleading look, said, “Bishop, I know I am about to die. Tell me what happens to my spirit when I do.”

I offered a silent prayer for heavenly guidance and noticed on his bedside table a copy of the triple combination. I reached for the book and fanned the pages. Suddenly I discovered that I had, with no effort on my part, stopped at the 40th chapter of Alma in the Book of Mormon. I read these words to him:

“Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, … are taken home to that God who gave them life.

“And … the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow” (Alma 40:11–12).

As I continued to read about the Resurrection, a glow came to the young man’s face and a smile graced his lips. As I concluded my visit, I said good-bye to this sweet family.

I next saw the wife and children at the funeral. I think back to that night when a young man pleaded for truth and, from the Book of Mormon, heard the answer to his question.

"Is that the real KJV or the one Joseph Smith doctored up?"

It's the real one. The "translation" that FLDS/LDS "Prophet" Joe Smith wrote was disregarded as a fraud by FLDS/LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young and it is not used by the LDS sect of Mormonism to this very day.

Shocking isn't it ?....Given the fact that the ENTIRE reason Smith claimed "God(s)" visited him was because the bible was corrupt, so he retranslates it under command of "God(s)", and the church disregards it.

Your post is another shining example of exactly what I was speaking about in my earlier post. The list of unbiblical quotes and false doctrines, and the tremendous amount of materials directly taken from original Mormon sources that prove that Mormonism is pure, unadulterated heresy is devastatingly damning.

Sadly, in spite of the truth and all of the overwhelming evidence, there are multitudes (like Saundra Duffy, here on FR) who continue to willfully reject the truth presented to them time and time again, and instead follow and promote the CULT of Mormonism, even in the face of the overwhelming evidence and proof that it is nothing but a heretical cult. This they do, to the eternal damnation of their soul and the souls of those they willingly, willfully continue to deceive.

Re-post a couple "vicious" posts.

While you are at it...re-post a post that you think...someone is claiming expertise.

Thanks-

Exactly.

If you have the stomach for it, there is an interesting addition of eight hundred plus words at the end of the OT Book of Genesis ... yes eight hundred plus in that one location, out of thousands of added words throughout the Bible.

Joseph Smith wrote himself into the Genesis book, fabricating a prophecy of his 'coming forth in these latter days'. I can't think of a conman more bold than to add hundreds of words to the Genesis book in order to fabricate a prophecy of his advent in these latter days, so you might get a kick out of reading that little segment. The JST version is available online; go to the fiftieth Chapter of Genesis.

Thanks for asking.

Why doesn't SLC consider the JST to be Scripture?

Thanks for answering.

That's the problem when you have an "evolving prophet".

Is that anything like a DEAD one??

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

The triple combination contains the Bible (KJV), the Book of Mormon and Doctrine & Covenants.

There are very many good things about the LDS and the society that they have created.

If, as seems likely, the Republican nominee is an LDS member, your church is going to endure such a time of testing from the MSM that I am already feeling sorry for you.
