"Under the Banner of Heaven" movie? [In Time for Romney candidacy]

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – First a controversial book, now Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith is a possible Blockbuster.

Under the Banner of Heaven is an investigative non-fiction book published in 2003. Now, Warner Bros. wants the movie rights.

If Warner Bros. is granted the movie rights, Ron Howard will direct the screen adaptation of Under the Banner of Heaven. When the news came down that this was a possibility Wednesday, it didn’t take long to find an upset Utahn at Temple Square.

“I'm disappointed in that. I'd hate to see the movie produced.”

Jon Krakauer gives historical background into the Mormon faith while telling the story of Ron and Dan Lafferty. They were two Utah brothers who killed their sister-in-law Brenda Lafferty and her 15-month-old daughter back in the mid 1980's. This murder is believed to be the consequence of two men who were submerged in extreme, fundamental Mormon beliefs. When the book was released nine years ago, Richard Turley, a leader in the LDS Church told ABC 4, “The real danger is that some people will somehow or another confuse, because of his writing, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Ladder Day Saints with these unconnected Mormon Fundamentalists.”

Ron and Dan Lafferty belonged to the School of Prophets. Here they deepened their so-called Mormon faith. Ron called himself the “Voice of God” and Dan was the self-proclaimed “Arm of God”. This church believed in “revelations”, some of which told them to “remove” people: people like Brenda Lafferty.

“Yes, I think I noted that as a revelation that I received while I was in the school of prophets, yes,” said Ron Lafferty in a Death Row interview with ABC 4...

From the article: SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – First a controversial book, now Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith is a possible Blockbuster... Now, Warner Bros. wants the movie rights. If Warner Bros. is granted the movie rights, Ron Howard will direct the screen adaptation of Under the Banner of Heaven.

The book [and assumed, to be carried into the movie] includes a chapter on philanderer Parley Pratt, g-g grandfather of Mitt Romney...who was killed in 1857 because he was hustling up another wife to go with his dozen back home.

Four generations later, Mitt Romney is a direct descendent of Pratt.

See another thread from this a.m. on Parley Pratt: 5 questions answered about Parley P. Pratt

Pratt was serving as a Mormon missionary in 1857 and was killed by a jealous husband because Pratt had made off with her and was trying to steal her away for good. [She was separated from her husband].

The story relates to the book because of the theory raised that the Mountain Meadows Massacre was easy for Brigham Young to "egg on" his subjects to kill 120 wagon train people from Arkansas...the state where Pratt was killed.

Expect to see extremely graphic scenes of dozens and dozens of Mormons massacreing children, moms & dads on the first 9/11 terrorist act of this country (Sept. 11, 1857!).

The Mormon church leaders covered it up so that only one man, John D. Lee, was ever held accountable.

FReeper poster Zakeet has noted: "Many of the descendants of the people are disturbed by this fact. The monument [now as the massacre site] sits atop the mass grave of 28 people slaughtered that terrible day - 10 women and 18 youth (if I recall correctly). An archaeological excavation of the original monument site (where the current memorial now stands) revealed that the 10 women were shot in the face at close range by pistols. Two of the youths were gunned down by rifles, one was slashed to death by a knife, and the remaining 15 died when their skulls were bashed in by the butt of a rifle."

Zakeet has noted that "the Mountain Meadows Massacre was then and still remains the largest robbery-homicide in U.S. History."

Apart from the horror of the massacre, a well-known historical event, what are the bets that this movie will NOT be released before Mitt is nominated (as they hope), but just in time for an October 2012 surprise, in order to re-elect Hussein. First they’ll prop Mitt up, then they’ll knock him down.

Needless to say they won’t make any movies about Hussein as a Muslim, whose grandfather was a Mau Mau terrorist and whose cousin Odinga (whom he helped to push into the Kenyan government, using taxpayer funding to pay his expenses) is a Communist/Muslim terrorist.

All I can say is that if one wants the truth about Mormonism, read:

“The God Makers”, by Decker and Hunt

“Can Mitt Serve Two Masters?” by Tricia Erickson, the daughter of another Mormon Bishop, who is no longer with the Mormon Church.

“The Kingdom of the Cults”, by Walter Martin.

And Google “The White Horse Prophecy”, by Joseph Smith.
where he states the goal of the LDS to take over the U.S. government, and then that of of the world.

(Oh, yes, Mitt is a Mormon Bishop! At least he is at the 33rd degree of the Secret Society which is parts of Freemasonry, Hinduism and Islam with a plagiarized portion of the King James Bible.)

Actually, the descendants of the murdered Gentiles are most disturbed by the fact that although the memorial sits atop the mass grave of their Christian ancestors, the LDS Church expressly and steadfastly forbids the erection of a cross anywhere on the site.

For some mysterious reason, the Gentiles want their relatives associated symbolically with their Lord and Savior. And for some even more mysterious reason, the Saints do not.

Ron Howard seems infatuated with LDS splinter groups. He produced Big Love too. Now he’s taking on the Lafferty brothers, who were excommunicated from the LDS Church when they started to practice polygamy, and then eventually started killing people.

I wonder what his next project will be.

Nice distortion, Rip.

Here, Mormons don't like it when you implicate ALL Mormons in the behavior of some; yet what does he do of Ron Lafferty? He accuses him of engaging in polygamy!

I'm not sure even how many of his brothers were actual polygamists...even if they indeed were advocating it.

ALL: The reality is that Ron Lafferty wasn't some wild-eyed fundamentalist polygamist. Ron Lafferty, who had a "revelation" to kill his sister-in-law, had been n upstanding Highland, UT city councilman plus both a first counselor to the local Lds bishop and an LDS youth leader!

(Of course, Ripliancum doesn't mention those little facts, does he?)

Now, it is true that Ron Lafferty was convinced by his brothers that they should take Lds "scriptures" like Lds Doctrines & Covenants 68:2-4 seriously -- about how ALL Mormon priesthood members are allowed to have "revelations" from God.

And, as the article says: Ron and Dan Lafferty belonged to the School of Prophets.

I blame Joseph Smith as an accomplice in those deaths because of his wreckless "revelations" in D&C 68!!!

As I mentioned in the previous post, Ron Lafferty wasn't a polygamist. The Lds church ex-communicated him for advocating it -- as his wife remained Lds and didn't go along with it. Since she divorced him, how could he be a polygamist at the point of ex-communication?

Rip, you're just full of it and bluster prevarications whereever it seems fit to lay 'em down, eh?

I rechecked an extremely long article in the 2004 Deseret News -- owned by the Mormon church -- to see if they...20 years after the fact...took the same "wild-eyed murderous fundamentalist polygamist" tact that Ripliancum tried on you posters.

The short answer is simply "Nope. They don't." In fact, the article asks the question:

"What most neighbors wonder is how two GOOD MORMON BOYS, including one who would serve as a bishop's counselor, could commit murder in the name of God." (Mormon church-owned newspaper, Deseret News, July 27, 2004) URL for quote: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/595079489/1984-Lafferty-case-still-haunts.html?pg=5

ALL: Quite a contrast to Ripliancum's spin he tried on you about some wild-eyed Mormon polygamists on the loose, eh?

If you want to an answer to the DesNews' 2004 question, why, all you have to do is look @ less-than-11 dozen years prior to those '84 murders to a lovely spot in Utah named Mountain Meadows. There, you had the Lafferty murders times 60 committed by dozens of devoted mainstream Mormons!

As an added thought, Lafferty wasn't only convinced to take D&C 68 seriously, but D&C 132 COMMANDING Mormons to practice polygamy is still on the books, too!

For anybody reading the last recorded 10 chapters of the Mormon Doctrine & Covenants' sections, it truly is a bizzarre experience!

* D&C 132 tells the Mormons to be polygamists for the first time!
* D&C 132:20 tells the Mormons to be polytheists for the second time -- but the first time in writing!
* D&C 134:12 tells the Mormons to not give their "gospel" to slaves ... which today would translate to be women and children trafficked as sex slaves.
* D&C 129 tells Mormons to shake hands with demonic spirits (& others) to discern whether or not they are Satanic.
* D&C 138 talks about a vision of dead people!
* D&C 132:17 talks about men becoming angels!
* D&C 132:18 talks about "gods" being "appointed"
* D&C 130 -- the year Joseph Smith was on a "revelation roll" re: polygamy -- came up with "gems" such as highly-touted Joseph Smith prophecies even to this day!

Mormons like to say how Smith "predicted" the Civil War 17-18 years before it broke out...yet Smith spoke like a Mormon god giving a revelation when he wrote: "It MAY PROBABLY arise..." (130:13)

Wow! Now that's "divinity" speaking? What a laughing stock of a "prophet!" "may probably..."??? Now there's a "god" speaking thru a "prophet" to follow!!! /s NOT!!!

Oh. And for "good measure," two verses later, Joseph Smith puts words in the Mormon god's mouth saying: "Joseph, my son, IF THOU? livest until thou are eighty-five years old..." (130:15) Say what?

The Mormon god doesn't even know how old his "prophets" will live to? What? He threw out 85 as a rough guess?...when Smith didn't even make it to age 40? Why mention it at all?

Smith was an out and out con man, liar, and false "prophet."

“The real danger is that some people will somehow or another confuse, because of his writing, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Ladder Day Saints with these unconnected Mormon Fundamentalists.”

Yeah; that can be a REAL problem alright.

Questions put to Joseph Smith: "'Do you believe the Bible?' [Smith:]'If we do, we are the only people under heaven that does, for there are none of the religious sects of the day that do'. When asked 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons'? [Smith replied] 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119).
Joseph Smith: "for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible" (from Pearl of Great Price 1:12). "What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270).

Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: "When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness" (Journal of Discourses  5:73); "The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God" (Journal of Discourses  8:171); "With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world" (Journal of Discourses  8:199); "And who is there that acknowledges [God's] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.24); "Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity" (Journal of Discourses  10:230).
Orson Pratt proclaimed: "Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent" (The Seer, p. 255).

Pratt also said: "This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now" (Journal of Discourses , vol.18, p.44) and: "But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance" (Journal of Discourses , 18:172).

President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.167); "Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom." (Journal of Discourses , 10:127).
James Talmage said: "A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ". (A Study of the Articles of Faith, p.182).

President Joseph Fielding Smith said: "Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness." (Doctrines of Salvation, p.266). "For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the 'Christian' churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).

More recent statements by apostle Bruce McConkie are also very clear: "Apostasy was universal...And this darkness still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol 3, p.265); "Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general" (The Millennial Messiah, p.403); "a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom" (Mormon Doctrine, p.132); "virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit" (Mormon Doctrine, p.269); "Gnosticism is one of the great pagan philosophies which antedated Christ and the Christian Era and which was later commingled with pure Christianity to form the apostate religion that has prevailed in the world since the early days of that era." (Mormon Doctrine, p.316).
President George Q. Cannon said: "After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon" (Gospel Truth, p.324).

President Wilford Woodruff stated: "the Gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communication with Him. I want nothing to do with such a Gospel, I would rather prefer the Gospel of the dark ages, so called" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 2, p.196).

JESUS: Hey Smith!       Remember that boast you made about doing more than even I had done to hold the 'church' together?

JOSEPH SMITH: Where am I?

JESUS: Don't you remember? A few seconds ago you were in that jail.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah; but where am I NOW?

JESUS: Don't you remember? Does bang - bang ring a bell?

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah - that crummy gun I had was about USELESS!

JESUS: I hope you left instructions on how to hold your church together.

JOSEPH SMITH: Dang! I knew there was SOMETHING I was forgetting!

JESUS: Looks like there's a power struggle going on down there.

JOSEPH SMITH: Yeah; there was always SOMEone who wanted the power that I held - especially over the LADIES - wink wink.

JESUS: No need to worry about that now; remember what my friend Matthew wrote down?

JOSEPH SMITH: This? “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Matthew 22:30)

JESUS: That's it.

JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.

JESUS: Nah - it was right.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh well; it was fun while it lasted. My buds will still get it on with the girls.

JESUS: Uh; I'm sorry; in just a few more years; your followers will cavein to the United States government and abandon the 'Eternal Covenant' that you came up with.

JOSEPH SMITH: ME!? YOU are the one that told me to do that!

JESUS: Sorry; but you must have mistranslated what I told you. What part of Do NOT commit ADULTERY did you not understand?

JOSEPH SMITH: mumble....

JESUS: What did you say?

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, nothing.

JESUS: Well; it was interesting talking to you; but now I must get back to perparing a place for those who believe in Me.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, yeah; the Celestial Kingdom.

JESUS: No...

JOSEPH SMITH: The Telestial one?

JESUS: Nope.

JOSEPH SMITH: SUREly not the TERRESTRIAL one!!

JESUS: Nope. Didn't you read that the mind of man had NOT conceived of it? Paul wrote it down in 1 Corinthians 2:9.

JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.

JESUS: No; it wasn't.

JOSEPH SMITH: You SURE?

JESUS: Yes. Now I must be going: what did you say your name was again?

JOSEPH SMITH: Joseph Smith.

JESUS: Hmmmm. According to my Heavenly FAITHbook, you didn't sign in as one of my friends - sorry, I never knew you.

JOSEPH SMITH: But....
