FBI agents on Wednesday raided an Ohio compound and arrested seven Amish men on hate charges in connection with haircutting attacks on other members of the usually isolated Christian religion.
[. . .]
All are charged with conspiring to carry out a series of assaults over the last few months on Amish men and women, cutting off their beards and head hair with scissors and battery-powered clippers. The acts were especially heinous to the Amish who believe there is a biblical injunction to shaving when men marry.
If convicted, the suspects face up to life in prison, the government said.

“What’s wrong with simply battery charges?”
I hear they also gave their victims some mean wedgies.
1. muzzie on muzzie justice: “Ah, they have a seperate community, they should have their own law, sure..”
2. Amish on Amish: “This is definately a hate crime —they need 2 go away 4 LIFE..!!”
Is this the very first documented “Hate Crime” committed against white people?
Whenever there is a small group of individuals who try to sincelely practice privately their beliefs there can occur the rise of an abuser of that group.
I’m not against religion but it is so open to those abuses. This world is full of tyranists looking for work.
The acts were especially heinous to the Amish who believe there is a biblical injunction to shaving when men marry.
Ok, if you’re not allowed to shave, why do so many Amish not have mustaches?
Because they do not want to resemble their German captors.
When hair cutters become terrorists, news at 11!
Real good point. Amish need to make Amish rules for Amish people.
“If convicted, the suspects face up to life in prison, the government said.”
Can I get even with my old barber?
The battery powered clippers would seem to be prohibited by their faith.
What’s wrong with you people!
We need to ban hair clippers. They are NOT part of the Second Ammendment.
Ya, yea, go chant that tired comeback...”clippers don’t cut hair, excessively talking women and men do”.
buzzard, calm down. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Jonty’s question and he isn’t bothering the Amish in the least.
Personally I think the women should shave if they need to after marriage. But that is only my opinion.
It’s an honest question. It seems to be an incongruency in their position.
I have nothing against the Amish and all those other sects that came from the same time period and theology, like Mennonites or Hutterites.
Agree or disagree, I like having people explain why they take the positions they do in life.
Besides, even if my question was a point in ridicule or something, it’s not as though they’d read it. :)
They deserve to die in prison.
For the hypocrites on this thread: if men armed with knives and shears broke into your home in the middle of the night and dragged your wife from her bed by her hair, would you put a few rounds in them given the opportunity?
If her assailants survived, would you argue that they did not deserve to die in prison, but that they should serve a few months for simple battery?
Let me guess, the perps were Amish... oh, wait. Ahem.
