ŒCOCW (Orthodox) Joins U.S. Catholic Bishops in Coerced Abortion Fight
Your Story ^ | January 21, 2012 | +Catholicos Scholarios-Gennadius III, OSB

The Holy Synod of the Œcumenical Canonical Orthodox Church Worldwide (ŒCOCW) joins the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in opposing the Obama administration’s decision to force all health care providers irrespective of religious beliefs to provide mandatory abortions.

Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, President of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference described the Obama administration’s position on this matter “literally unconscionable,” and the ŒCOCW shares these sentiments. The Catholic-Orthodox position on abortion and the protection of human life is well known and has remained unchanged; making the Obama administration’s publicized position a deliberate and unequivocal affront to Catholic teaching.

The ŒCOCW recognizes the Obama administration’s less-than-positive sentiments in relation to Church teaching and tradition with particular emphasis on abortion as evidenced by President Obama’s overturn of former President George Bush’s banning of abortion funding shortly after assuming the presidency.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced Friday, January 20, 2012, that church-affiliated organizations, such as Catholic hospitals will be required to make birth control (contraceptives) a covered option of healthcare insurance, a practice in direct conflict with Catholic Moral Teaching. Secretary Sebelius attempted to soften the blow by announcing that institutions operated by religious organizations would receive a one year reprieve.

The Holy Synod of the ŒCOCW sees these developments as an early indication of the Obama administration’s intention to forcibly compel religious and Christian organizations to perform activities that are in direct opposition to their long-held religious beliefs amounting to a government-sponsored denial of religious freedom and a possible violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. All traditional Christian and Catholic organizations and institutions should brace for the eventual mandate that they also accept and participate in such practices such as offering same sex marriages, abortion and other immoral activities that violate their ethical and Christian moral teachings.

The Holy Synod of the ŒCOCW calls on all religious institutions, organizations and churches to join it in publicly opposing this direct change of our constitutionally guaranteed religious freedoms.

Being married to a Catholic I never miss an opportunity to chide her about the church’s love of democrats while at the same time putting up with the fact their chosen party thinks the moral high ground is killing the unborn.

What goes around, comes around and the church is reaping the evil they support.

The Church doesn’t support it. Some Catholics do. There’s a difference.

This is an all out war on Christianity. I wonder what the punishments are for hospitals that refuse to cooperate?

“All traditional Christian and Catholic organizations and institutions should brace for the eventual mandate that they also accept and participate in such practices such as offering same sex marriages, abortion and other immoral activities that violate their ethical and Christian moral teachings.”

Some say that this could never happen in the United States of America. Such people are unfamiliar with history. YES, it most certainly CAN happen. It behooves ALL who cherish authentic freedom to stop the direction this administration is pushing NOW! Pray, fast, and work to STOP these radicals.

I noticed that a number of their bishops are Old Catholic. However, the POINT they are making regarding the dangers of this administration is valid.

After having lunch yesterday with a priest and discussing this very topic I can tell you for a fact, in WNY the church is in the communist wing of the democrat party which today comprises the entire party not just a wing..

Fortunately, the Catholic Church is bigger than Western New York.

While it is nice that other ecclesial bodies are opposing the administration on this, could you appeal to the administrators to remove the parenthetical (Orthodox) from the title?

The group in question seems to be a vagante operation, the source of whose orders I have not been able to track down, and whose “Catholicos” Mr. Shedrick is married (one can find notice of his 40th wedding anniversary earlier this month by searching for Scholarios-Gennadius Shedrick after finding his family name by finding his LinkedIn profile in a search for “Catholicos Scholarios-Gennadius III”). Plainly not Orthodox, whatever they call themselves and whatever view you Latins might have of the validity of their orders.
