Our Merciful Father,
'I will Give Thanks to the Lord with All my Heart; I will Tell of All Your Wonders. I will be Glad and Exult in You; I will Sing Praise to Your Name, O Most High.' (Ps.9:1,2) How Awesome You are, our Holy King! Your Blessings Fill and Enrich our Lives, and Your Word Gives us Comfort Everyday. You are our Everything, Precious Lord. 'I Love You, O Lord, my Strength.' (Ps.18:1)
Our Gracious Savior, we Praise You and Thank You for our Brave Troops. We Ask, Loving Lord, that Every Man will be Held Safely in Thy Hand. May Jesus' Peace Indwell them, and His Presence Overflow their Hearts. Please Shelter them, Lord, from Every Attack of their Foes. May Jehovah-Jesus Protect them, and Encircle them with His Great Love. 'I am Continually with thee: Thou hast Holden me by my Right Hand.' (Ps.73:23)
Our Merciful Master, we Intercede for the Healing of our Land. The Days Seem So Dark, Lord, but Your Lambs Rest in a Pasture of Light. May Many Sinners be Brought to the Fold of the Compassionate Shepherd-King. 'Hear me, O Lord, for Thy Lovingkindness is Good: Turn unto me According to the Multitude of Thy Tender Mercies.' (Ps.69:16)
We Ask, Beautiful Savior, for Israel's Protection and Peace. May their Hate-Filled Foes be Defeated at Every Turn. 'Deliver me, O my God, out of the Hand of the Wicked: out of the Hand of the Evil and Cruel Man. For Thou art mine Hope, O Lord God, even my Trust from my Youth.' (Ps.71:4)
Thank You for Hearing us, our God of Faithfulness and Grace. We Praise and Thank You for Your Mercies to us, Caring Lord. 'From East to West, from Dusk to Dawn, Keep Lifting All Your Praises to God!' (Ps.113:3) In Jesus' Name, for the Glory of the King of kings, amen.

PRAYERS GOING UP FOR OUR AMERICAN HEROES AND FOR OUR BELOVED NATION!
GEORGE WASHINGTON THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE
In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.
In like manner, let our prayers now rise for our heroes in the American military who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Amen.
SHADOWS AT ARLINGTON
Heavenly Father, Lord of the Nations, unto Your Divine Mercy we commend the souls of these who have fallen in the service of our Nation. We pray that You gather them in Your loving embrace, that you cause Your countenance to shine upon them and that You vouchsafe their souls to dwell eternally in Your Divine Presence. Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Making Music
February 5, 2012
On a lovely summer evening, a capacity crowd gathered in a beautiful outdoor venue for a concert by one of my college friends. It happened to be his birthday, so the emcee hinted that we might want to sing Happy Birthday to him. One by one, people started singing, each in a different key, each at a different tempo. As the jumble of notes and words joined together, the result was, well, less than harmonic. It wasnt even melodious. It was in fact downright pitiful. When my friend took the stage, he gave us another chance. He didnt give us the pitch, but he did give us a downbeat, so at least we were singing together. By the end of the song most people were somewhat close to the same key.
The noise that was supposed to be a song reminded me of a problem in a first-century church. They couldnt agree on their leader. Some followed Paul; others Apollos (1 Cor. 3:4). The result was conflict and division (v.3). Instead of music, they were making noise. When people dont agree on a leader, they all sing (Im speaking metaphorically here) at the pace and pitch most comfortable for them.
To make beautiful music that will attract unbelievers to Jesus, all believers must follow the same leader, and that leader must be Christ.
Lord, give us wisdom. We know its good to follow
the example of our godly leaders, but help us not to
think so highly of them that we worship them
instead of You. Amen.
Be filled with the Spirit, . . . singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:18-19
