I guess this means we are morally obliged to vote for the Muslim.

But of course - a Mormon heretic is a bajillion times worse than a Muslim infidel. (sarcasm)

Yeah what the heck is the big idea of discussing religion in a religion forum...

I am not catholic and I get pretty irritated when I hear catholics deciding for everyone what is christianity and what is not. It is arrogance and elitism that drives you catholics to do this. I look around the world and see what happens when the catholics are free to determine who’s religion is true and who’s is not. Any country where catholics succeed in imposing their one “true” religion as the one state religion, the country goes to shit in every way measurable...freedom, economic, morals...you name it. I think you should ponder this before you start proclaiming yourself superior to a non-christian mormon heathen and make yourself unable to vote for a mormon because of your superior principles.

And you're Roman Catholic? The Church that above all others save perhaps the Orthodox has stood n defense of the Faith longer than any other?

What American liberalism penetrating the clergy of all denominations has done to Christianity in this nation is sad...

No wonder we are in the shape we are in...

What’s the point? It wouldn’t be hard to do this with just about any religion. I could point out the differences between Christianity and Methodism, or Catholicism, or Southern Baptists. Big deal.

Do you really want Obama to beat Romney?

There is only one man running for POTUS who has taken this "sacred" vow in a mormon temple.

You will likely see this Law of Consecration brought up time and again by the Obama campaign...an oath taken by Romney numerous times in the mormon temple..."You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the Law of Consecration as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.

Law of Consecration

Mormons covenant to put the church before ALL things.

Ha! I am not (Roman) Catholic. In fact, someone earlier was excoriating me for being “protest-ant.” Too funny. I can’t win no matter what I do.

Anyway, to your larger point, Christianity either means something or it doesn’t. Now I don’t want to get you wrong, so I hope you’ll bear with me because I’m just trying to get this right. You don’t like Catholics defining Christianity. OK. Who gets to define Christianity? Anybody? Maybe the Founder?

Or is this like the Constitution arguments we’re having with the left right now? How dare we conservatives resist the infinite expansion of the Commerce Clause by trying to limit it to the actual meaning ascribed to it by the Founders?

I don’t buy into the lib/postmodern premise that you can redefine anything on a whim as long as it suits your purposes. I agree with you that Christianity casts a bigger net than any one denomination. I disagree that it is so broad and meaningless it can encompass anything at all, up to and including the poly-theo-evolutionary system known as Mormonism. It is substantively a different religion than Christianity, and it is simply dishonest to pretend otherwise.

Politically, people can do with that what they will, and they will anyway. It just stuns me how deep the postmodern aversion to truth has become, even in conservative enclaves like FR. Making categories and putting useful labels on them is how we humans navigate the murk of reality. Switching those labels around with a reckless disregard for their meaning is like removing road signs from dangerous intersections. Sooner or later, there will be heck to pay.

Matt. 29 “Immediately after othe tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Revelation 1:7 “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”

Sorry, I don’t see anything in the Bible about a secret meeting in a forest with a teenage conman. The Bible states that when Christ returns, it will be for the whole world to see. Not in secret.

I look around the world and see what happens when the catholics are free to determine who’s religion is true and who’s is not.

LOL..52,000 mormon missionaries are going out every day knocking on the doors of Christians and proclaiming to them that their faith is false and the only way to salvation is to become mormon...either living or after death.

Henry B. Eyring, “The True and Living Church,” Ensign, May 2008, 20–24

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, and it lives on.

As we sustain Thomas Spencer Monson as prophet, seer, and revelator and President of the Church, and D. Todd Christofferson as an Apostle and member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, we have seen and felt evidence that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is both true and living. The Lord spoke to those through whom He restored the Church in the latter days. He said of them that they “might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually—

“For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance;

“Nevertheless, he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven;

“And he that repents not, from him shall be taken even the light which he has received; for my Spirit shall not always strive with man, saith the Lord of Hosts.”1

This is the true Church, the only true Church, because in it are the keys of the priesthood. Only in this Church has the Lord lodged the power to seal on earth and to seal in heaven as He did in the time of the Apostle Peter. Those keys were restored to Joseph Smith, who then was authorized to confer them upon the members of the Quorum of the Twelve.

The True and Living Church

Do you find THIS irritating also?

You are still overly impressed by your own thoughts.

I guess Romney was exempt from the missionary rules since he was allowed to date his future wife while on mission. She [somehow] got the opportunity to study in the same part of France .He did say that they had a chaperone while dating. He also drove and was in 2 accidents while on which mission, one which resulted in the death of a passenger in his vehicle
