I'll go with what God says about what the Beast is.
But it's not a point worth arguing. Apocalypse Experts bore me.
Good article! It’s amazing how fast things have progressed to have everything in place for the last times. From 1948 till now the progress toward everything to be in place is staggering.

I wrote something on another thread today that impacts on this same subject. Technology can be used for good or evil. The technology itself is benign, but what man chooses to use it for is not. The barcode can also be as simple as an RF chip taped or inserted into a product that can be scanned by a receiver in close proximity like an anti-theft tag on electronics at a store. It’s the same thing and they are replacing barcodes on stickers with these for use on tollroads and in logistics.
It’s not a matter of when, the technology is already here to create a police state far beyond the imagination of any despot in history. One that could control every aspect of our lives if those in authority chose to do so. When we have an evil government they will use technology for evil. When we have a moral government we have little to fear.

This technology all exists now. It will get easier each year as technology and computers continue to improve. See the Drudge headlines today on data mining? Many bible scholars who are interested in end-times prophecy believe these technologies are the “mark of the beast” that will be required to participate in commerce.

Sadly, many will. It will be a UN mandate or something that everyone gets “identification, banking, and commerce chip” for “security and convenience purposes.” Or something. And the gov will enforce it and many, many people will just go along...Don’t want any trouble...Its the law...Gotta feed my family...

But Scripture tells us that the world will know, through the preaching of angels, that to take the mark means to worship the Beast and those who take it are eternally doomed.
It's about commerce, but it's also about making a choice of worship. And there is an eternal price to be paid for making the wrong choice.

Don’t get all butt-hurt about it. There’s good technology and bad. Human ID tagging is not right up there with my favorites, needless to say. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth to say the least.
