Merciful Father,

Our Lord of Life and Grace, You are our Hope in these Uncertain and Difficult Times. In the Shelter of Thy Hand, Please Keep us, Dearest Lord. May America be Granted Repentance, through the Unmerited Kindness of Jesus Christ.

With our Eyes Upon Jesus, we Lift to You, Lord, our Brave Troops. May You Bless All their Work, and Grant them Daily Success. May the Power of Jehovah Dwell with them and Keep them Safe. Please, Loving Lord, Draw our Beloved Men to Your Heart. May Every Man Cling to Jesus with Steadfast, Continual Faith. For our Military Men and Women we Pray Isaiah 41:10, 'Fear not, for I am with You. Do not be Dismayed; I am Your God. I will Strengthen you; I will Help you; I will Uphold you with My Victorious Right Hand.'

We Ask, Your Majesty, that Abortion will be Made Illegal in our Land. Please Raise Up a Godly Army that will be Elected Across the USA.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Initial Point
September 30, 2012

If you drive south of our home in Boise, Idaho, you’ll see a volcanic butte that rises out of the sagebrush on the east side of the road. This is the initial point from which the state of Idaho was surveyed.

In 1867, four years after Idaho was organized as a territory, Lafayette Cartee, the Surveyor General of the United States, commissioned Peter Bell to survey the new territory. Bell took a sledge and drove a brass post into a little knob on the summit of that butte, declaring it to be the initial point from which he began his survey.

The survey established the language of land description in Idaho: Townships are designated north and south of the initial point; ranges are designated east and west. With such descriptions, you always know exactly where you are.

We may read many books, but the Word of God is our “initial point,” the fixed reference point. John Wesley read widely, but he always referred to himself as “a man of one book.” Nothing can compare to the Book of books, the Word of God. When we allow the Bible to be our guide in all of life, we can say with the psalmist, “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Ps. 119:103).

Dear Lord, we are grateful for Your Book. In it
we learn of You and find guidance and direction
for our lives. Help us to learn to love Your Word
and to eagerly dig into its pages. Amen.
