The Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is His Name.' (Jer.32:17) When we Contemplate Thy Greatness, Lord, our Spirits are Filled with Joy. All Things are Possible with His Majesty the King, and in Your Goodness, our Hearts can Rest.

Confident in Your Power and Love, we Ask that Your Healing will Cover our Land. May Your Mercies Fall, Lord, as a Former and Latter Rain. Our Iniquities are Many, Holy Lord, and we Ask You to Put our Sins Away. 'We don't Ask because we Merit Help, but because You are So Merciful despite our Grievous Sins. O Lord, Hear; O Lord, Forgive.' (Dan.9:18,19)

Our Abba, we Seek Your Blessing and Protection for our Brave Troops. May they be Sheltered by the Presence of Your Unwavering, Great Love. Please Protect them also, Father, from False Religions and Diverse Sins. May Your Favor Encircle Every Man, and Grant Blessings of Safety and Peace. For our Dear Troops we Pray Zephaniah 3:17, 'The LORD thy God in the Midst of thee is Mighty; He will Save, he will Rejoice over thee with Joy; He will Rest in His Love, He will Joy over thee with Singing.'

Our Master Most Kind, we Ask for Salvation for Obama and our Foes. May the Sovereign, Unmerited Grace that Saved us be Sent to Rescue Many Men.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Heavenly Father, Lord of the Nations, unto Your Divine Mercy we commend the souls of these brave men and women who have fallen in the service of our Beloved Nation and in defense of the Freedoms we hold dear. We pray that You gather them in Your loving embrace, that You cause Your countenance to shine upon them, and that You vouchsafe their souls to dwell eternally in Your Divine Presence. Harvest Day
October 21, 2012

One autumn afternoon I drove past a field where a farmer had parked some massive machinery by the side of the road. A yellow caution sign read: “Harvest in Progress.” As I glanced over at the field, I knew instantly what the farmer had planted several months ago—tiny kernels of corn. I knew this because he was preparing to drive his harvesting equipment through acres of mature cornstalks.

While it may seem obvious that planting corn leads to harvesting corn, we sometimes deny the relationship between sowing and reaping in our spiritual lives. The apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be deceived . . . ; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Gal. 6:7). Living to please our flesh yields corruption in the form of wanting what isn’t ours, self-centeredness, and even substance abuse (5:19-21). Walking with the Spirit produces peace, kindness, and self-control (5:22-23). By God’s grace, we can choose to “sow to the Spirit” and reap eternal life (6:8).

Suppose Jesus declared today “harvest day” in our lives, and He asked us to gather up the yield of our everyday choices over the past year. What would we have to show Him?

Things of the world often pull at my heart,
But, Lord, help me see the end from the start;
Open my eyes to where my life’s going,
What I will reap from all I’ve been sowing. —K. DeHaan
