Featured Term (selected at random):

CATHARSIS

Purging or purification, especially of the emotions or conscience. The emotions can be purified by a strong affective experience in which a person identifies himself with someone else's generally tragic experience. The conscience can be purified by a sincere admission of guilt and begging God's mercy for whatever wrong had been done. (Etym. Greek katharsis, purgative.)

We all need to do this. For Catholics -- be sure to take part in a Penance Service in this period before Christmas.

Actually, non-Catholics have been known to just go into the Confessional and talk with the priest too.

Remember, it is God who forgives the sins. Read the words of absolution!

enter the Table of Contents of the Catechism of the Catholic Church here
1449 The formula of absolution used in the Latin Church expresses the essential elements of this sacrament: the Father of mercies is the source of all forgiveness. He effects the reconciliation of sinners through the Passover of his Son and the gift of his Spirit, through the prayer and ministry of the Church:
God, the Father of mercies,
through the death and the resurrection of his Son
has reconciled the world to himself
and sent the Holy Spirit among us
for the forgiveness of sins;
through the ministry of the Church
may God give you pardon and peace,
and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
