Could it be because the Church is the “Bride of Christ” ?
Because that's the only kind there is.
Cal Thomas is a terrible theologian. I can pray to whoever I want and not break the first commandment. Just because some American Protestants think pray means exclusively worship of God doesn’t make it so. Pray also means “to ask” in much of the English world. The bible says that even death cannot separate us from the body of Christ. Therefore, I can pray to (i.e. ask) Mary to pray to Jesus concerning whatever I want to have prayed for.
Looks like his caps lock is stuck. Maybe he should have left this topic to the religion editor. No, wait. . . .
Knowing the Bible, I have to admit that this watching of the smoke looks silly to me.
I have lost a lot of what little respect I had, for the Catholic religion, over this.
Cal Thomas just offered me 30% of his fathers’ diamond mine in Nigeria.
I don’t call that a rant. I call it a legitimate point of view.
His points are very valid ones that have been brought up for centuries and were probably instrumental in Martin Luther’s time and the Reformation.
So, I guess you can argue and argue and argue about those points, but I always try to rely on St. Thomas Aquinas, Fulton Sheen, William Buckley, Jr., etc., all of whom were extremely intelligent, and all of whom were deeply Catholic.
I wonder, therefore, how could they rationalize these contentious points and then resolve that they were going to the right church.
I think as soon as the Catholic church accepts the/a reformist pope the church will be irrelevant. Look at any of the churches who deny that it’s the blood of Christ that buys redemption. Then their will be only a remnant of Christians.

Strange. While I agree with him, I don’t agree with his approach.
BTW, the Baptist’s believe in a Pope too. They just believe every little church has one. And they call him “Pastor” instead of “Pope.”
Just as unscriptural......nowhere in the NT is there a man titled as a pastor heading a church. No where. Only use of singular noun “pastor” (Gr: poimen) always refers to and is only used in reference to the Lord Jesus.
In Eph. 4 is is one of the gifts given to men to serve the body of Christ. It is never a title or position. It is plural, not singular. Except referring to Jesus.
For those who proclaim the absolute truth of scripture, there is no doctrine/practice more unscriptural in Christendom than having one man head a local church and call him the “pastor”.
Ok, flame away, all who believe in the local pope.
Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, got the tatoo.....
if it’s not your religion... what does it matter and why criticize the faith of others?
Doubting Thomas - the gates of hell won’t prevail against the Catholic Church - 2000+ years should give you a hint of what Jesus had in mind.
BTW - God picked out David but I’m sure you would have picked someone not sinful. The only sinless person born was Mary, the mother of Jesus. Now that must really frost you. Cal, you are screwed up. Go to confession and straighten out.
I agree with him.
What other kind of men does God have to build His church with, but “sinners?” And, it is precisely that we all do fall short of Him that is the reason for the Church (and synagogue) in the first place... to help connect us better with Him and His will for us.
Cal Thomas has totally missed the point...
I never saw his blog before. At first, I thought he was being hacked.
I’ll never understand why people care about other people’s religious ideas. I spend no time worrying about what Evangelicals think...
Why would any prominent person decide to attack the entirety of the Catholic Church as false, at the time of selection of a new leader? If this is legit, he exposes the face of religious intolerance which has scared many away from conservatives.
I’m sure he hasn’t stopped to think that maybe God didn’t want a “reformation” against the Church, which led to dozens of conflicting denominations each professing the one “true” interpretation and sometimes killing each other.
Maybe the Pope has more insight in Scripture than Cal Thomas. Maybe not. Why should we care about the theological certitude of Cal Thomas?

(Mark 10
20
Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
21
And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
22
But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
23
And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
24
And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
25
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
26
But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
27
And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
28
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
The worst of the churches can be right on some issues and the best of the churches can be wrong, and the same apply to any individual, that is why we have Christs word.
