Pray for Our American Heroes and Nation

Psalm 61:7 Let him rule in the presence of God forever. Appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him! 8 So will I ever sing praises to your name, as I perform my vows day after day.

TOPICS: Prayer
KEYWORDS: troops
Dear LORD, I pray for our Military men and women who have made a vow to Protect this Country, Protect the Constitution, Protect our Freedoms, Protect us from all enemies foreign and Domestic. We cover them with a vow to Pray for them each day. OH LORD, I love this prayer verse for in it we see YOUR SOVEREIGNTY…if YOU appoint, there is none greater than YOU to deem it impossible or change its way: so, we ask, appoint YOUR steadfast LOVE and YOUR Great FAITHFULNESS to each one of them, resulting in them songs of Praise to YOUR NAME. Help them to see that all things, even them, are in YOUR HANDS, and YOU appoint the days, times and places where we are to the GLORY of YOUR GRACE and MERCY. Amen. OH LORD, YOU are unchangeable and we have such security in that. So, we pray also for the Soldiers of YOUR PEOPLE Israel too. YOUR VOW to LOVE them is solidified in YOUR COVENANTS with them and we pray for their protection and safety too. OH LORD, forgive this country that vowed to be ally to them, and gradually are finding leaders who are turning their backs. OH LORD, rise up men and women to rule in this country once again through the integrity of FAITH…We pray…Amen.

Dear Lord, it seems as though Christian leaders have failed so often and so visibly that now the church is paranoid. I pray that leaders today would be faithful and pure; I pray that the church today would be willing to follow Godly leadership. Amen. I know that this is the battle…between the spirit and the flesh. But LORD, as YOU won the victory, YOU hold the spoils which is a rich life of obedience and sacrifice, song and praise, love and service, humility and grace, mercy and truth…all leading to ETERNAL LIFE…Amen. OH LORD, grant this to us in discernment and submission. Amen.

First Things First

March 19, 2013

When our granddaughter Sarah was very young, she told us she wanted to be a basketball coach like her daddy when she grew up. But she couldn’t be one yet, she said, because first she had to be a player; and a player has to be able to tie her shoelaces, and she couldn’t tie hers yet!

First things first, we say. And the first thing in all of life is to know God and enjoy Him.

Acknowledging and knowing God helps us to become what we were meant to be. Here is King David’s counsel to his son Solomon: “Know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind” (1 Chron. 28:9).

Remember, God can be known. He is a Person, not a logical or theological concept. He thinks, wills, enjoys, feels, loves, and desires as any person does. A. W. Tozer writes, “He is a person and can be known in increasing degrees of intimacy as we prepare our hearts for the wonder of it.” Ah, there’s the rub: We must “prepare our hearts.”

The Lord is not playing hard to know; those who want to know Him can. He will not foist His love on us, but He does wait patiently, for He wants to be known by you. Knowing Him is the first thing in life.

He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joys we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.
—C. Austin Miles © Renewal 1940. The Rodeheaver Company
The thought of God staggers the mind but to know Him satisfies the heart.

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the great blessings You have poured out on this nation since it's beginnings. Our forefathers knew that true freedom and all good gifts come from You. I cannot say it better than one of our Forefathers has:

John Jay

First Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court

Unto Him who is the author and giver of all good, I render sincere and humble thanks for His manifold and unmerited blessings, and especially for our redemption and salvation by His beloved son. He has been pleased to bless me with excellent parents, with a virtuous wife, and with worthy children. His protection has companied me through many eventful years, faithfully employed in the service of my country; His providence has not only conducted me to this tranquil situation but also given me abundant reason to be contented and thankful. Blessed be His holy name!

Father, You blessed this nation with men who knew this country would not work unless You blessed and preserved it. They created a constitution that had Your name all over it. As much as we love our constitution, we know, as they knew, that our freedom is a gift from Your hand.

Our times have changed, but our need for You has not; in fact I think our need is greater in many ways. They mainly fought for our freedom from tyranny (which we also are concerned about) but I believe our biggest fight is spiritual.

Many in our nation have turned from You, but call themselves Christian. They want to change what was established in our laws (which we obtained from You) in the name of tolerance, fairness and equality. Many voters do not know You will or care to do Your will, so they are left to follow their desires and passions. Our courts are filled with many who do not acknowledge You at all. They are pleasers of man and not You God. Our political leaders, most of them, are more concerned with getting and keeping power for themselves. When they do not look to You for wisdom on doing the peoples work, they have no foundation to stand on, so their views for this nation change with the political winds. Our president, I believe, not only does not acknowledge You, but has a hatred for You and Your people, that he does not often voice in public. Most of the voters of this nation trust the government more than they trust You. They do not care about evil being enacted in laws, only that they get “things” they want, not realizing that those things pass away and never bring them peace or happiness. Only You can bring true peace and happiness.

Father, we need You desperately to awaken Your children and all people to the threat we in this nation face. May we begin to pray fervently for our all people to stand up against the tyranny going on. We know this is a spiritual battle, so we ask that You lead us and give us wisdom how to fight.

Thank You Father that You have held back the just punishment this nation deserves and instead, you have been merciful and compassionate. May we Your children know Your will and do it.

In Your precious Son name we pray.

Amen.
