People don’t always listen, especially when the information contradicts assumptions that they have.

The painting was finished in 1494, only 2 years after Columbus discovered America and long before the Conquistadors.
Did Columbus have horses and let the Indians ride them?
Possibly, but doubtful.

Ever heard of “artistic license?” “We don’t need no stinkin’ facts!” As the photo credits say these days: “This is an artist’s conception of what the scene might have looked like.” Nothing’s changed. Consider that it took months to years for “news” to travel around the world at that time.

I do not see feathers as a headdress...I do not believe these are Amerinds. They are souls being called up during the Resurrection. Just my opinion.

To me they reminded me of the faces on the floor in Belmez, Spain. The short width of the mouths seem characteristic of his other paintings. Makes me wonder if this is not so clearly a representation of the Indians actually seen, but the memory of them painted in the artists own style later on. After all, their color flesh is awfully white for someone who goes around naked all the time exposed to the sun but seems to be the color flesh he often used in his other paintings. http://mysteriesunsolvedstory.blogspot.com/2010/10/faces-on-floor-house-ghosts-in-spain.html http://www.ghost-story.co.uk/index.php/ghost-stories/219-the-faces-of-belmez-cordoba-spain
