Pope Francis says atheists can do good and go to heaven too!
Catholic Online ^ | 5/24/2013 | Catholic Online

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Holy Father is full of surprises, born of true and faithful humility. On Wednesday he declared that all people, not just Catholics, are redeemed through Jesus, even atheists.

However, he did emphasize there was a catch. Those people must still do good. In fact, it is in doing good that they are led to the One who is the Source of all that is good. In essence he simply restated the hope of the Church that all come to know God, through His Son Jesus Christ.

Francis based his homily on the message of Christ to his disciples taken from the Gospel of Mark. Francis delivered his message by sharing a story of a Catholic who asked a priest if atheists were saved by Christ.

"They complain," Francis said, "If he is not one of us, he cannot do good. If he is not of our party, he cannot do good." He explained that Jesus corrected them, "Do not hinder him, he says, let him do good."

The disciples, Pope Francis explained, "were a little intolerant," closed off by the idea of possessing the truth, convinced that "those who do not have the truth, cannot do good." "This was wrong... Jesus broadens the horizon." Pope Francis said, "The root of this possibility of doing good - that we all have - is in creation."

"Even them, everyone, we all have the duty to do good, Pope Francis said on Vatican Radio.

"Just do good" was his challenge, "and we'll find a meeting point."

Hmmm...”let us ask of her this grace, this grace that all, all, all people would do good and that we would encounter one another in this work, which is a work of creation, like the creation of the Father. A work of the family, because we are all children of God, all of us, all of us!”

But we are NOT all children of God. Doing “good” doesn’t make you a child of God, unless by good you refer to this:

“Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” - John 6

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” - John 1

Those who do not repent and believe are in rebellion against God, refusing to acknowledge Him. They are NOT children of God, although they could, at any time prior to death, BECOME children of God by repenting and believing.

“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

Personally, I don’t promote or defend atheism, but each to his own I suppose if you think that defending atheism is good.

“Stuartcr, you are in pretty good company:”

You both are in terrible company. Read just one verse earlier:

Rom 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

Paul does not propose that anyone can be justified by the law. His argument is that there is no difference between Jew and Gentile in regards to law keeping. For the one, having the law, is judged by the law (and therefore perishes), and the other, with the law written in their hearts, perish as well.

Rom 3:19-23 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (20) Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (21) But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; (22) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: (23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

It’s quite blasphemous to claim that there is salvation in the law for infidels, when salvation is ONLY through the blood of Jesus Christ.

I don’t recall meeting an American atheist who I would have called merely a gentile who hadn’t heard the law.

Almost every one that I have met, is anti-God, that is why he tells us that he is an atheist.

Well, after reading through this thread, I feel like I have entered a Christian Forum that was halfway through reading, “Redemption and Salvation for Dummies”.

Yeesh.

"I don’t think it sounds like that at all."

Well that would depend on what folks might think 'the work of God' is yes? The Bible tells us the work of God is to believe so then to an atheist (according to God's word)the work of God is to actually be rid of your atheism.There's no way around that.The "work of God" is to believe so atheists by definition don't do the work of God at all,let alone do it without knowing.

So yes it sounds exactly like that.Unless you want to tell God He's wrong about what He says His work is.

"Ok so it does sound like that if you say so"

Well it's not actually my say so.It's what a plain reading of God's word tells me and if we're talking about His work then we should use His definition of what that work is.

I hope you meet God before you have to front up to Him.

Of course its your say so, or you wouldn’t say it so much.

I have already, but I doubt you believe me, so it is of no matter.

Psalm 14:1, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”

Matthew 5:22, "Whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire"

Is this supposed to be one of those myriad errors in the Bible? FYI...It's not an error.

I don’t think you understand the entire subject of infallibility. It is only is subjects of faith and morals — only two dogmas have been propagated by Popes as infallible.

Every day stuff is not infallible, but may be impeccable or not.
