And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.(Genesis 1:3-7)

The first recorded Words of God speaking , are, “Let there be Light!”. John, in His epistle, reminded the disciples, “This is the message we heard from him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all”. God, who is light, energized the world that He had created, by the words, “Let there be light”.

God then commenced His work of division; dividing the light from the darkness, thus creating days. The Creation would take six literal days, a day consisting of “evening and morning”. By repeating the expression, “evening and morning” the Creator is drawing our attention to the fact that these are literal days as we know them.

That evening comes first, then morning, reflects wider truth, that darkness precedes the light; in creation, salvation, and eschatologicly. Darkness covered all created matter, until God spoke, diffusing all with light. Clarity and form took place, and the creation began to teem with life.

In my own life, I was in darkness, moral and spiritual, until the Word of God came into me, rocking“The True light now shineth“, for all who have received the Word of life and light.

And at the end of man’s time on earth, at the time of the “Day of the LORD, comes a period of darkness , a time of tribulation so intensely dark, Jesus warned us,

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.(Luke 21:25-26)

But all of earth’s tribulation and gloom is to be followed by the breaking of a glorious new day, in which the Lord promises,

But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.(Malachi 4:2)

Even in Creation and in the pattern of evening and morning, we see shades of what the Palmist sang of, Weeping endures for the night, but joy comes in the morning…(Psalm 30).

On the second day, the Creator continued His work of separation, by dividing the waters above, from the waters beneath. He did so , once again by Divine command, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters…”. The Hebrew word ‘firmament’, raqia, means an expanse , or a spread out area.

The separation of the waters involved placing water on earth, and waters in a canopy over the atmosphere, ie the firmament. The waters below would become the salt and fresh water systems, necessary to sustain life. The waters above would be a canopy of protection, creating greenhouse conditions for life.

But there are shades also of the end, dimly perceived at the beginning. The waters, are a metaphor for peoples, in the later scripture.

The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.(Psalm 93:1-5)But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.(Isaiah 57:20-21)

At the end, God shall again divide the waters, taking some above and sending others below, for though presently, “…This is their hour and the power of darkness…”(Luke 22:53), the new day is soon to dawn with the rising of the Sun of Righteousness, and the great White throne judgment of all men shall commence, on the basis of the acceptance or rejection of God’s appointed way, Jesus Messiah.Get ready everybody!

And God called the firmament Heaven.

Everything made sense until this last statement. It doesn't seem to be addressed, at least in the excerpt.

And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Before the fall, from the beginning, God established an orderly world. "Evening followed by morning" describes a creation of divine order, not random events. Other god's are capricious but the true God is a God of order, a God fully in control of His creation working in an orderly manner. Evolution requires that we reject an orderly God fully in control, and accept a God who creates from chaos. The repetition of "evening followed by morning" indicates such order and control that its one major reason it is impossible reconcile scripture to evolution.

In the beginning Maxwell said let the divergence of the electric field be charge over permittivity. And there was light. And Maxwell saw that it was good, so he said, let the divergence of the magnetic field be zero and there was electro-magnetism and he separated the electric from the magnetic and thus did Maxwell work through four equations and when he came to the fifth equation, Maxwell rested and Lorentz begat his force law.

Then Michelson built unto himself a mighty inferometer, that he might know, “In what coordinate system do these laws hold forth?” But the inferometer answered not this question. And by this were Lorentz and Fitzgerald sorely vexed. Seeing this, Einstein said,”The LAW of MAXWELL shall be valid in any INERTIAL coordinate system”. And thus saith the fool in his heart “It’s all relative.”, knowing naught of what he speaketh.

Here endeth our reading from the book of Jackson.

Genesis itself separates the peoples.

You are right, I did define firmament, but should have emphasized that the firmament is the "space' between the waters, ie our atmosphre The Hebrew word ‘firmament’, raqia, means an expanse , or a spread out area.

The text would indicate that the time frame for each day is equal for the six days. Whatever period of time you enter, the interval would need to be constant. A constant interval is contrary to evolutionary theory.

According to Peter there are 3 different heaven/earth ages. The heaven/earth age that WAS Peter's words, was destroyed, there was a flood. Which is what Genesis 1:2 has a flood, it is describing the total and complete destruction of every living creature.. dinos... (well except for the soul/spirit intellect as is described what made the Adam alive.) as also told by Jeremiah in chapter 4:22-31. This is when Satan rebelled as described in Isaiah 14:12- and Ezekiel 29:12-.

Peter says in IIPeter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of,

that by the word of God the heavens were of OLD, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then WAS, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 BUT the heavens and the earth which are NOW, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 BUT beloved, be NOT ignorant of this one thing,

that one day is with the LORD as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

TYPO should be Ezekiel 28 not 29... this describes the ‘tree’ of the knowledge of good and evil along with Isaiah 14:12- all happened between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2...

Christ and Paul called it the overthrow / casting down and the translators used the phrase ‘foundation of the world’.

If I understand your reply, I don't agree. The first sentence of Genesis states that God created the heavens and the earth. That might be part of the first day or it might be a long time before the narrative continues and "now" the earth was formless and empty. I believe - although it isn't important to our salvation - that there was a lot of time between the original creation of Earth and the likely recreation that began with the second sentence in Genesis.

From there forward, I take the days as literal days.

Other than explaining why the earth looks and is empirically very old, I only care about this because young earth theory does tend to drive off scientifically minded young people who might otherwise see the glory of our God. The idea of there being a lot of time between the first sentence and the second is clean and simple. It might be wrong, but is God the author of confusion?

Try as you might, Genesis and evolution is cannot be reconciled. I started where you are 15 years ago. I have looked at the gap theories and have concluded the text does not support it for numerous reasons.

"Try as you might, Genesis and evolution is cannot be reconciled."

That all depends on how we define the terms. Genesis is certainly not compatible with abiogenesis or biopoiesis in which life spontaneously arose from organic chemicals, but Genesis is not incompatible with intelligent design. God's idea if Himself is the perfect order and harmony of all creation, it is the Second Person of the Trinity. The laws of physics and mathematics, and the process of ensuring life will adapt and survive in changing environments are a part of that perfect order and harmony. The Catholic Church calls that Natural Revelation and it is no less miraculous than the act of creation itself.

Peace be with you.

Considering that the word “genesis” is not of Hebrew origin and the fact that it did not even exist as a word until the late 16 early 17th century, why don't we take a look at how it was defined prior to its “Greco-latin” inception.

The word “genesis came from the Greek word “ap arche” which means the “beginning of sacrifice, first fruits” which is the exact same as it is defined in the Hebrew word “re she’th”. When read in Hebrew, the word is “bre’she’th” because there is the Hebrew letter “Bet” (house) in front of “re’she’th” signifying that the “first fruits” or the “beginning sacrifice” is from the House of God”.

Simply what this is telling us is that the Word of God is true and indeed did prophecy that the “first fruits” of God was slain from the foundation of the world.

Yeshua haMashiach being the “first fruits” of God, we see His plan of redemption right from the start. Yeshua being the light, was in darkness and then was called forth, “there was evening (darkness of the grave) and morning (light of eternal life), the first day.

And take notice that this “light” on day one is not the same light as what was created on day 4. Day one, the light came forth out of darkness and day 4 the light is created and is used reckon God's calendar and His appointed times (seasons = mo’ed, specifically appointed times. see 1Thess 5 and the “sons of light”)

the light of day 4 gets its light from the light of day one and therefore, the reason there is no need of the sun, moon or stars in the eternal kingdom.

Ps 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path

Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. 2 He was in the beginning with Elohim.

Gen 1:1 בראשׁית ברא אלהים (alef-tav / alpha-omega) את השׁמים וא הארץ (alef-tav with the 'vav'(the nail) connecting the heavens and the earth)

Studying the Hebrew reveals the un-translated word that reveals "He" who is the "first" and the "last", Yeshua haMashiach, the Word of God that put on flesh and just as He was slain in the beginning, He came to be slain in the flesh to redeem mankind from their sin so that they would go and sin no more through the power of His Holy Spirit who leads and guides all who are in He the Mashiach, in spirit and in all truth.

The text would indicate that the time frame for each day is equal for the six days.

The 'first day' doesn't start until AFTER verses 1-5 listed by FreeAtlanta. It says the 'evening' and the 'morning' constituted the 'first day'. It took God all morning to create the heavens and Earth, but the clock didn't start running until after lunch break.
