>>One of the characteristics of Conservatives is supposed to be tolerance.<<

Not likely.

Tolerance - The last and only virtue of the completely immoral society.

Your belief system works for you and I am glad for you.

It does not mean it works for all of us. That does not mean we will all turn into human flesh eating zombies.

I for one BELIEVE there is a power greater than myself. I used to think I knew what that was and gave it a name. I no longer feel I know what it is exactly. My personal moral code is based on Judeo-Christian tradition. I hope I have it right but I don’t think many people have it as right as they believe they have it.

Anyway peace and personal liberty to you.

****all that is left is thier anti-christian behavior.****

Christians are not the ones who started this fight back in the 1820s when a shyster “glass looker” came out of the woods claiming he had seen angels and gods and Jesus and took upon himself the mantle to tell everyone how WRONG their religion was and how HE was RIGHT and they better believe him or else he would stand in the doorway to Heaven and keep all non-Mormons out unless they had his personal pass to heaven!

HE threw down the gauntlet and CHRISTIANS picked it up! Mormons have been crying FOUL ever since about it ever since about it as they constantly get (_________) handed to them in any discussion with Bible centered Christian believers.

I thought it was Cain.

Against all non-Mormons, you knew what I was talking about, you saw the quote! Joseph Smith attacked us because of what "God" told him!

Why did he (Joseph Smith) join the Methodist Church after his first vision?

Good question. Shortly after Smith's baby died in the latter 1820s, Smith took membership classes in the Methodist church. Why? (If what Smith said was "so" re: what these nameless entities in the official "First Vision" version "told him?")

***The Holy Bible is Holy Scripture to Mormons. We use King James version. Thank you very much.***

Yet they don’t read or understand it! I have had dealings with mormons and when I mentioned Galatians chapter 1 they said, “Uh, what is that?”

I used to have great fun talking to Mormon missionaries who set up their prostylizing station in front of the Allan Theater in Farmington NM.

I found they were dumb as posts when I started mentioning scripture.

I also found those who called me, when I ordered a free bible, from SLC, the person on the other end of the phone had absolutly NO comprehension of anything I mentioned about the bible, but tried to get me to order a free BOM.

Besides, would YOU trust an organization that hands out FREE BIBLES that they themselves don’t believe is “Properly translated”?

Your belief system works for you and I am glad for you. It does not mean it works for all of us.

You know you might not be as "relativistic" as others who oft' make statements along these lines, but did you ever stop to think that...
...Hitler's "belief system" worked for him, too -- well, at least in the latter 1920s and the 1930s (if the measure is the accumulation of power & some wealth). Were you glad for Hitler's pre-WWII years with this relativistic charm of yours?

If the measure of truth is what "works for you," what does that mean? (Unpack that for us)

Where does relativistic pragmatism ever stop boundary-wise?
Where does it even start authority & standard-wise?
Are there not ANY absolute beliefs that are intended by God to work for ALL of us? (If so, what would you say those are?)

Profits or Prophets who claim God came down and sat on their shoulders and whispered new gospels in their ears are a dime a dozen.

The bible has ways of proving their falseness.

Self-serving, as expected.

“Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.”
Mahatma Gandhi

“I never will, by any word or act, bow to the shrine of intolerance or admit a right of inquiry into the religious opinions of others.”
Thomas Jefferson

One of the reasons that anti-Mormons are so effective are Mormons themselves. You don’t hear of anti-Methodists. The reason is that if you criticize Methodist beliefs, a Methodist will agree with you and add some criticism of his own. Mormonisms unwillingness to criticize the church is the problem. It often results in an inability to voice the truth. Knowing too much about the church ends up being a liability to witness. Truth becomes shaped by the church, not by reality.

Fine-tuned words of accumulated, experiential wisdom, appypappy. (Thanks for sharing them)

My experience .... Anti Mormons will perform any inuendo, any distortion, any smear .... and any construction to destroy LDS beleifs.

IMHO it isn't just anti-mormons. AntiCatholics do the same thing. So do Catholics who are prejudiced against nonCatholic Christians. When I see anti[insert denomination here] comments on FR, I think of Luke 18:11: "God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are..." Those threads make me cringe. Truth should be able to stand on its own without personal attacks, shouldn't it?

...all that is left is thier anti-christian behavior.

Thank you for calling attention to the uncharitable means by which some promote "true" Christianity. Is someone who sneers and mocks showing fruit of the Holy Spirit? Is a belief system that bears bitter fruit supposed to be attractive?

Some say Jesus was insulting toward some of the Jewish leaders, therefore rudeness is justified. IMHO it's only justified if one also has the holiness of Jesus and his ability to judge another's soul. Did Jesus ask us to treat each other rudely? Did he insult individual sinners, or did he touch them with love and an invitation to follow him into a changed life? As far as I'm concerned, insults aren't an appealing invitation! Thank goodness in real life people seem very capable of engaging in respectful discussion about differences in faith. Online though it's easy to throw stones from the anonymity of an online screen name, isn't it?

“Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.” Mahatma Gandhi

(Sounds like Mr. Gandhi was rather intolerant of some forms of self-perceived "intolerance" -- even being so intolerant as to label what might have been a perfectly perfect peaceful position as "violent"...How is that in any way, shape or form "tolerant?")

Hitler like zer0 was a dictator even before the war. Why would I not be aware of that?

If 10 years of parochial school under the tutelage of Dominican nuns, Marist Brothers and Jesuits did not turn me into a rote believer in the scriptures, your poor attempts at shaming me into such a faith based paradigm surely must fail(as it has).

Truth: E=MC2. (This is true as long as we are not floating in a fantasy realm where a supreme being has rigged the deck).

I will not pretend to know more than that nor believe words put down in scriptures 2000+ years ago by sandal wearing shepherds. I could possibly be wrong. I was not there to witness the miracles and wonder, therefore I will continue my quest for understanding the universe.

OK, surely you know we live in a culture where some are so sensitive, it doesn't take much to offend. It doesn't even take "tone" -- or "rudeness." All it takes is a perceived slight vs. the truthfulness of their pet ideology, and they are offended.

If we applied this over-sensitivity to the political arena, absolutely NOTHING would ever be said negatively about other parties, about the current administration's agenda, etc.

Is someone who sneers and mocks showing fruit of the Holy Spirit?...IMHO it's only justified if one also has the holiness of Jesus and his ability to judge another's soul.

Which is it here, Peeved? (You're speaking out of both sides of your keyboard):
On the one hand, you acknowledge that...
...the HOLY Spirit IS able to work His fruit THRU a person...
...on the other hand, you put yourself in a place where you either downplay those who have the very holiness of Jesus (via the Holy Spirit) -- or, if you acknowledge some may have such holiness -- you seemingly have placed yourself in a judgmental perspective of strangers by almost pre-emptively ruling out (in a generic manner) that such a holy presence may indeed be present.

Which is it?

...his [Jesus'] ability to judge another's soul. [PeevedPatriot]

#1...You don't have to be in a place to "judge another's soul" to be able to speak out vs. deception & immoral lifestyles. Example: If I was speaking to a younger member of my family/extended family, & I warned vs. "living together" pre-marriage or homosexuality, I am not "judging" the soul of those who do...I am simply expounding my convictions based upon discernment granted unto me by God.

#2...What do you say to this passage from 1 Corinthians 2?

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit MAKES JUDGMENTS ABOUT ALL THINGS, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

So, are you, in quoting a Democratic President's wife, labeling ALL FREEPERs who frequently discuss Obama as being of a "small mind?" (Yes or no as a response would be enough)
