What would Jesus drive?

Pope Francis said on Saturday it pained him to see priests driving flashy cars, and told them to pick something more "humble".

As part of his drive to make the Catholic Church more austere and focus on the poor, Francis told young and trainee priests and nuns from around the world that having the latest smartphone or fashion accessory was not the route to happiness.

"It hurts me when I see a priest or a nun with the latest model car, you can't do this," he said.

"A car is necessary to do a lot of work, but please, choose a more humble one. If you like the fancy one, just think about how many children are dying of hunger in the world," he said.

What would Jesus drive?

He would probably want something comfortable for those long trips from Kfar Nahum (Capernaum) to Jerusalem down Route 90 or up to Lebanon along Route 6. He would also need something that could tackle those rough dirt roads on the Golan Heights and in the Judean Desert, but with enough room to hold the 12 Apostles. So he would probably choose an SUV such as a Cadillac Escalade or a Range Rover.

If I were pope I would be far more concerned with what my priests were packing, rather that what they were driving.

If they were anywhere close to the adherents of the ROP.

Or maybe he doesn’t care. He seems quite happy to prostrate himself before the Muslim invaders.

I knew a Jesus and he had a 64 Chevy Impala with curtain tassels hanging from the top of all the widows, even the windshield.

an SUV... the poor don't all live in the city or where the weather is always nice and warm, the poor live in the hills an in cold climates too so to minister to them an SUV would be the most practical

Saw a guy crank up a 1909 Cadillac on one of the reality shows. Just need some oil on the cylinder heads and some fresh gas. Jesus is proud.

It would be humble but durable and practical, he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey after all. He was a carpenter, so there would be utility and a certain amount of hauling capacity. He was not terribly impressed with the conventions of the time, so conventionality was not a concern.

Sounds like a Subaru Baja to me. Or maybe an old aircooled VW Transporter or Samba truck.

Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail me now.

"It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"
