Christians use prophecy to excuse laziness

In response to my two previous columns regarding the current development of a devilish New World Order, many professing Christians wrote me with comments to the effect that we should not be concerned about whatever global tyranny may be developing, because "it's all a part of God's plan," or "Jesus is coming soon," and similar statements. I, too, believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to earth. But, then again, so did Christians from every generation over the last two millennia. In fact, the Apostle Paul was looking for the return of Christ while he lived (Philippians 3:20). But does anticipation of Christ's Second Coming excuse personal neglect, indifference, and downright laziness? Of course not.

Had pastors and Christians of colonial America believed and acted as most Christians believe and act today, this country would still be a Crown colony and we would never have known the freedoms and liberties that our forebears bequeathed to us. Christians of that era, however, believed that it was their duty and obligation to fight for right and do everything within their power to resist tyranny. They also believed that God would honor and bless their efforts, which He certainly did!

It is extremely difficult for me to reconcile the apathy and slave-like mentality that seems to permeate modern Christendom (in America) with both our own heritage and the very Word of God. For example, the Apostle Paul is very clear when he writes that a Christian must never "do evil, that good may come" (Romans 3:8). Yet, that is exactly what many, if not most, Christians are doing today.

What should Americans do--both clergy & laymen?

How about simply refusing to bear false witness by finding excuses to rationalize what is happening in Washington as acceptable?

We have a written Constitution, which simply does not authorize what is being done in its name--it just does not. Anyone who reads it in context understands that. Those who take an oath to uphold it, and then support what has been going on, have betrayed their oath; betrayed their duty, both to those presently alive, and to those who will follow. How can any man, claiming to shepherd people to Godly purpose, remain silent, if he understands this?

Pastor Baldwin's ministry is directed towards the honorable; those who really believe that there is a place for integrity in public life--not those who go through the motions, while ignoring uncomfortable reality.

History is the best way to look at the future. Many Jews and early Christians thought Rome was going to be overthrown in 70 AD. Christians and Jews alike were killed during WW2 when they were too late or couldn’t afford to get out of Germany. Stalin... Kamer Rouge... East Germany... Close the border to get out comes first, and then the arrests and executions start. It can happen here.

Difference between them and us was understood by our founding fathers and the reason for the second amendment.

The lefties in charge have no intention of closing our borders UNTIL they intend to round us up. In the mean time the are doing everything in their power to repopulate this country with people who do NOT believe like us.

There is NOTHING in the bible that says American Christians will escape persecution , NOT ONE THING , there is no such promise . It's very prideful to believe that we will not go through what much of the Body of Christ has had to go through since our begining.

Christians are to be watchmen , they are to watch and wait on the Lord and always ready to sound the alarm . Not snoozing . Faith of a mustard seed that can move mountains has nothing to do with moving a pile of rocks , it's about moving the mountain(kingdom) around you.

If you truly live like HE IS COMING TOMORROW then you are going to busy working making sure everyone around you aren't asleep. NOTHING will change in this country UNTIL the people repent and a whole lot of people in this country who have the audacity to call themselves Christians are not only just asleep - they are DEAD and just don't know it .

I see nothing in the book of Revelations that suggests I should just lie down and wait for the return of God. If that were true, why has anyone bothered to stand for righteousness over the last 2000 years? I think I’ll continue to fight for what I believe in until God indicates that I do otherwise. I got nothing better to do while waiting.

Amen

“blessed are those who seek justice for justice sake.”

Are they waiting til they get to heaven to seak justice?

If things are too difficult to think about, become indifferent and wash one’s hands of it ... like Pilate. That is their way. “I wash my hands of it.” They really say that.

I realize these are older articles and that Chuck Baldwin might not be viewed very highly around here but thought these articles warrant some discussion given current circumstances.

Chuck Baldwin is a major leader of "palaeoconservatism." I don't understand how he can claim to be a "premillenial." He might as well be a full-blown "reconstructionist."

On the other hand, their efforts, whether separate or in consort, have already done immense damage to a great many of the world's distinct peoples.

So, are you one of those "planet of peoples" guys?

Do you believe there's a different "true religion" for every "people?"

You sound like a "kinist."

You can bet a whole crowd has their 2018 books and lectures all ready to go at the start of 2014, too.

When I was 12yrs old my mother sat me down and told me it was wonderful! I’d never live to be old, I’d never grow up! The Lord was coming! Soon. Very very soon!

35 years later I’m still waiting...

And I’m 10+ years older now than she was when she told me. I’ve been grown up for a long long time now.

It’s this kind of stuff that makes unbelievers.

Ask me how I know that.

Have no idea what you mean by "planet of peoples." Nor do I claim to be a theologian, capable of passing judgment on anyone's theology. One of my favorite quotes is is that "man can invent nothing in science or religion but falsehood." In other words the quest both in science & religion is to discover Truth and embrace it, not "invent" it.

You need not speculate on what I intended by the quote you cite. The sort of damage to others, to which I refer, is described in An American Foreign Policy.

One aspect of it is developed in the piece, written at the time President Clinton joined Tony Blair in the war on Serbia: American Foreign Policy At The Crossroads.

All of this means that I subscribe to the Washington/Jefferson foreign policy. You treat everyone with respect, expect respect back; and--in Jefferson's phrase--"punish the first insult." On questions of the law of nations, I have great respect for Vattel, as did the Founding Fathers.
