Huge Failure in Catechesis: Survey: only 13% of Catholics think IVF is morally wrong
Catholic Culture ^ | August 19, 2013 | Diogenes

Only 13% of Catholics--and 12% of Americans--believe that in vitro fertilization is morally wrong, according to a new Pew Research survey. 33% of Americans judge the procedure morally acceptable, while 46% say that it is not a moral issue.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith discussed the immorality of in vitro fertilization in its instructions Donum Vitae (1987) and Dignitas Personae (2008).

The survey also found that 49% of Americans believe that abortion is morally wrong, while 15% say it is morally acceptable and 23% say it is not a moral issue. 64% of Hispanic Catholics and 53% of white Catholics surveyed said that abortion is morally wrong, though among “white Catholics who attend Mass at least once a week,” the figure rises to 74%.

22% of Americans--and 24% of Catholics--said they believe that embryonic stem cell research, which involves the destruction of human embryos, is morally wrong. In addition, 21% of Catholics said that they believe that adult stem-cell research is morally wrong, despite Church pronouncements that it is morally licit.

You wish to think that no extras were produced. I guess this salves your conscience but it is not fact. Natural pregnancy is very hit or miss; artificial methods also. What pro-abortionists accuse God of, science is certainly guilty , which is to waste many lives in the interest of saving one.

My my, I am glad you know so much about my families medical history...You appear to be very psychic I do love your little homily. I am grateful for your concern about and knowledge of my conscience. You write fine but obliviously didn't read my last post to you. I'll tell you some more about my life if your really nosy enough so you can judge me, my conscience and know so much about what you actually know nothing of....You know nothing about my faith or what I think of "person hood" Pregnancy starts at implantation within in uterus. fact not faith.

I would guess that you are catholic because you seem to be voicing strict catholic religion dogma. That's fine with me, we do have freedom of religion still in this country...although with Obama I don't know for how much longer that will be the case...

I think we have just about beaten this dead horse so answer me again if you want to, but don't expect a reply. I do pray God bless's you and your family as He has instructed us to.

Tough cookies here..And you are right, I do not care what your opinion is. I don't adhere to strict catholic dogma. I don't judge those that use IVF and it does NOT always mean many eggs are fertilized and implanted. After implantation you have a pregnancy and to abort any is wrong in my opinion. I don't think its my place to tell others what to do unless they ask.

I was told by an old freeper that when we write about another freepers answer, its polite to also include that persons name in your reply so they have a chance if they so desire, they can answer your post. But with you, I don't need your opinion. tough cookies signing off. And have a blessed day...GG

.....The child is made in a petri dish....

Does the petri dish carry the "child" to term. The medical term is a zygote at that stage of growth, then fetus, most women call it a baby at its implantation. I don't call a pregnancy a fetus, it is a baby. but that is just my opinion.

So are you just nit-picking that I used the word “child”? If so, c’mon. That was so not my point.

Dogma has little to do with it. IVF is basically animal husbandry practiced on human beings. You need to research how the process actually works. The following is reasonably accurate.

“Fetus” is just latin for child.

I have a friend who does that sort of thing and stopped then changed to another medical group exactly because there were always extra embroys. If not, you're calling artificial insemination IFV when they're not the same thing.

If it was IFV and you think it's justifiable homicide, fine.

I'm sure you'll get a chance to tell it to the Judge.

just using your words, words have meaning....you call it nit-picking, I call it quoting your own words. You wrote it, you own it...I was just asking you a question based on what you wrote.....

Yeah, you were asking me a question alright. Stop playing games. You know full well that my comment wasn’t meant to be taken literally.

I was not playing games as you state, but perhaps you should think about the words you use. I am not a mind reader and again you state that you KNOW that I know what you meant... I only know what you wrote...Have a great upcoming week-end...
