Atlanta Catholic church calls for immigration overhaul

Atlanta’s Cathedral of Christ the King joined a nationwide Catholic campaign Sunday in calling for an overhaul of the nation’s immigration system and a pathway to citizenship for immigrants living illegally in the U.S.

Deacon Gerald Zukauckas delivered Sunday’s homily, urging parishioners to get involved in pushing for a floor vote on immigration legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. Catholic churches across the nation were expected to deliver similar messages at Masses Sunday.

“Our moral tradition based upon our Catholic social justice calls on all people of faith and good will to stand up in defense of life and human dignity,” Zukauckas said, “just as we have for the sanctity of life from the moment of conception to natural death.”

Believe me, I can’t stand the USCCB’s position. They are aiding and abetting criminals. I will complain all day about the USCCB’s positions. But I guarantee that this thread will end up being an argument about how the Catholic Church is totally horrible, hates the Bible, and is a cult. Watch and see.

I don't know how you stumbled onto the truth, but in actuality FR only has about three or four dozen actual FReepers. FR members who arrived prior to 2001 were given fifty or so "sockpuppet" accounts to simultaneously post under, to give the appearance that political conservativism was far larger than it actually was at the time (I believe there were 743 actual members at that time, with another 11 in outlying countries, each managing 50+ accounts). Subscribers who could manage 100+ accounts were also awarded a "moderator" sockpuppet account to further the illusion of size.

If this thread "ends up being an argument about how the Catholic Church is totally horrible, hates the Bible, and is a cult", it's because we're just following the script each of us were given this morning (3+ lines of dialog for 50+ sockpuppet accounts doesn't write itself). If you have a problem with it, contact one of the moderators about having the script changed.

Probably most big city liberal parishes went along with this but for sure ninety percent or more of all parishes ignored it. That's why a separate article for each lefty parish that bragged about going along with the USCCB is posted to make it seem widespread.

The lesbian pastor of the largest Baptist church in Raleigh preached an "impassioned" sermon encouraging people to disrupt the State legislature when they were putting new controls on abortion clinics and a lot of Methodist and other lefty churches did the same.

Catholics were't posting every article they could find in that case or in all the other cases of non-Christian garbage some group with Methodist or Baptist in their church name spews and tarring all of those folks with the same brush. Implying something that isn't true about others is a form of bearing false witness and obviously Catholics are more reluctant to bear false witness even by implication that your run of the mill propagandist is.

If people are stupid enough to not realize what someone is up to when they post stuff about some Catholics while ignoring the exact same thing in their own ranks then they're just that stupid so let them wallow in it.

One good thing, though, is that seeing who on FR who claims to be Christian responds to such distortions in a way that shows they're in lock step with the far left on HuffPo when it comes to Catholics. That way you know that such folk are probably on the same wavelength as HuffPo on other topics as well but just aren't as open about.

Well, the sola scriptura folks on these religious threads, whose prime motive seems to be to sow dissension about other folk’s religions that aren’t Protestant, needed a new target. Now that Romney is out of the picture, when Mormonism was their favorite target for insults, they have switched their sights to Catholicism. It’s your turn Catholics.

Forget about using reason to refute the attacks. Either stay off these nasty threads where posters with not so hidden agendas want to claim the title of true believers for themselves alone, or fight back and defend your faith so that others reading these threads understand what your religion is really all about. That’s your options, IMO, as your Catholic religion is now in their crosshairs. They chased all the Mormons off FR, now it’s your turn.

Two thoughts: when have the catholic bishops launched a coordinated effort on abortion; if illegal immigrants should be rewarded with citizenship simply because they have been here a long time should not then a non-catholic be given communion if he sits in on Mass for a lot of Sundays?

As a Catholic for almost 8 decades it is unthinkable to believe the Church wants to force new immigration rules to allow law breakers to become Americans.
I have followed all the laws of the CATHOLIC Church all my life and I find this untenable.
They have exerted much more energy to bring in lawbreakers
than they have to get rid of Homosexual Priests.
Little wonder millions of good Catholics are leaving the church

Like that thread about the “saints” dripping in gems.

That thread was about skeletons being pulled from burial and being sent out to Catholic churches by the Vatican, to be drenched in gold and gems, for ceremonies and Catholic worship practices.

It naturally freaked people out, including many Catholics.

Is what you are calling the largest Baptist church in Raleigh, the 850 member Pullen Memorial Baptist Church?

They were kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1992.

I don’t know if they are the largest Baptist church there, but there are a number of Southern Baptist churches there which are larger, much larger, even exceeding 6,000 members.

The poor and helpless that they leave behind in Mexico, subject to the jurisdiction of Chaos and Anarchy in the Mexican Government, is completely ignored by the Church. While we strip the able bodied from 3rd world nations by the buckets, we ignore whats left behind, leaving nothing but a bad taste in the mouths of those left behind. We promote corruption that drives away free people when we have no checks to immigration, when we give free food and shelter to the able bodies that illegally enter this nation, and encourage this through ignoring our own laws which demand deportations of all of these illegals.

There are 2 sides to every story, too bad one of them are the truth, and the other a cheap excuse that ignores it.

are you confessing to being (possibly, in the eyes of *some* Roman Catholics --- not necessarily those present here of more conservative stripe) of being just another big 'ol CINO?

Or are you just another of those "fake" Catholics, who are in reality just another of those original thousand or so actual freepers, but are managing multiple accounts, in part in an effort to assist making American RCC bishops appear as a clustering of semi-half bright, foolish persons?

Good job, Alex. Rock on.

How dare you utter such doubts about the OTC (One True Church ™)

That tag line of yours is a real topper, given the rest of what you just dared say out loud (!) How dare anyone be so offensive.

Half-stepping? What about tap-dancing? Is that still allowed, or are you just another one of those "haters"? huh, huh?

Quick-- tell us what church you attend, so we can (all 743 actual freepers) attack you personally based on that, or else we will have to find some other way to discredit your anti-you Know-Who opinions. You dared even have an opinion. How dare you! What are you doing....are you "protesting"? There is a circle of the bad, "hot" place reserved just for all those who do ....

You must be just another OPC/moderator in disguise, with yet another relatively new sign-up date. It couldn't be anything else...since part of this site's existence is dedicated to casting anything at all "Catholic" in less than a gloriously triumphal light, instead of how it is supposed to be portrayed; always right/never ever ever wrong.

It's in the charter only available to those with the right secret decoder rings... (I will leave it to the reader to decide which sets of decoder rings I am talking about)

Deny all of this, all you wish. But it will only be further proof of how accurate the wild conspiracy theories concerning the religion forum of FR actually are. As if we need even more proof.

Oh...and welcome to the RF of FR, whoever you are. you've really stepped into it, now

Another fine mess you've gotten us into...

I like to think I’m a traditional Catholic. You know, the basic tenets. I do not subscribe to PC Catholicism. But, maybe I’ve been misreading traditional Catholicism these sixty-some odd years.
