Fox News columnist rips Pope Francis, loses Catholic News Service gig

Adam Shaw, an editor for the Fox News website, has been taking a lot of heat, even from some conservatives, for a rip-roaring assessment of the pope’s recent apostolic exhortation. His column is titled: “Pope Francis is the Catholic Church’s Obama – God help us,” which gives you a sense of where Shaw was coming from.

But if Shaw’s Fox job is safe — hey, when Rush Limbaugh is blasting the pontiff anyone else looks tame — his other gig, as a film and video game reviewer for Catholic News Service, is over as of yesterday.

Tony Spence, editor in chief of the wire service, which operates under the aegis of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said he had been “very pleased” with Shaw’s work, which included an analysis of the comics book industry. Spence said he knew that Shaw worked for Fox but it never caused a conflict — until this week. Spence wrote in an email:

“(W)hen he penned the recent piece on Pope Francis, comparing him to President Obama, and presenting it as an op/ed, he seriously compromised his credibility as an objective Catholic journalist for CNS. Had Adam merely reported on the pope’s apostolic exhortation, even citing unflattering sources, there would have been no problem. However, Adam’s caustic condemnation of the exhortation and of Francis himself, one of the key figures we cover daily with objectivity, fairness and certainly charity, left me little choice but to end his service with us.”

Spence wished Shaw well “at FoxNews.com and in all his future endeavors.”

That’s an unjustified comparison. That’s like saying just because Obama ate dog meat, so has Pope Francis.

Father Robert Sirico, in 10 minutes, sums up Pope Francis’
Exhortation. Not a spiteful or disrespectful word to say about Pope Francis, while at the same time saying that Francis needs to explain some of his thoughts. I agree 100%. This is type of spokesman Faux News needs to interview, not some video game reviewer that immediately starts calling the Pope a marxist.

” It’s not the Church who can censor pro-aborts — it’s their Bishops”

Utter crap. These Bishops all answer to the Pope. If he wanted pro, abortion politicians excommunicated he could do it barely lifting a finger.

The problem with your above argument, is that Shaw never called the Pope a Marxist. Are you an understudy of Mark Shea?

The problem with that is that I look at Pope Francis, and then at Barry…and I go “…really, Adam?”

Since a bare minimum of twice as many infants are murdered in the womb each year with abortifacient "contraceptives" as are murdered by abortions done by invasive means and all the "churches" that grew out of the revolt against The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church Jesus Christ Himself founded reversed themselves and now approve of abortion with "contraceptives", you can't possibly respect any of them since they approve of chemically induced abortions.

Sounds like another case of Superslick Christian Liberty Grease letting murder with "contraceptives" slide then playing "holier than thou".

I mean, come on. The Catholic Church doesn't smack down people who accept invasive abortions in addition to the chemical abortions all the non-Catholic churches do accept, and it's the Catholic Church you don't respect? Geez.

Instead of blasting the entire Catholic Church — write to each of the bishops where that politician lives.

Your pope can't do anything about bishops who encourage abortions but he can quash bishops who promote the marriage of current Catholic priests...

Not only is it a double standard, you guys support and protect the double standard...Interesting religion you got going there...

These people have long ago excommunicated themselves from the Catholic Church, which means they are no longer in communion with the Church.

As long as they eat the wafer and Rome doesn't send their money back, they are just as Catholic as you are...

So what you want to see on Fox is a Catholic apologist and not an unbiased reporter...

So the Pope supports queer “marriage”, and murdering the unborn?

So it's like the pope doesn't smoke, drink or chew, but he runs with those that do...

Mar_9:40 For he that is not against us is on our part.

So he that is against us is NOT on our part...And;

Luk_9:50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

Your pope clearly supports those who support queer marriage and abortion...You can deny it all you want but the world isn't blind...

A video game reporter should report on video games and comic books, not the condition of the Catholic church as HE perceives it. What gives this character the qualifications to criticize the Catholic Church, it’s doctrine and Pope Francis? Faux News could have pulled any wino off the streets of NY City and interviewed him and his thoughts on the church would carry just as much weight.

and this effected his ability to report on video games, how?

Face it he was fired because he wasn’t enough of a toady.

The SOB should have been fired. So once again, why didn’t Faux News interview someone with some knowledge of the inner workings of the Catholic Church. Why? Well let me tell you. They thought they would get their ratings up by going along from the other LIBERAL media to rip Pope Francis, and this includes cafeteria Catholic Bill O’Rielly and the rest of the “fair and balanced” homo-loving loudmouths led by the sodomite “marriage” loving Megan Kelly.
