Wake up, everybody!
**Additionally, he stated in A New Song for the Lord that rock music is thoroughly opposed to the Christian notion of redemption and of freedom. Therefore, he continued, Not for aesthetic reasons, not from reactionary obstinacy, not from historical immobility, but because of its very nature, music of this type must be excluded from the Church.**
Last quote is from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI — linked in the article.
Music Ping~
We attended the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Extraordinary Form on Christmas Eve. The music was so beautiful. The sung Credo, the Pater Noster, Agnus Dei - so sweet and lovely - bring tears to my eyes.
Traditional Christmas carols are some of the most inspiring music ever written. I listened to traditional carols this Christmas but when I turned on the radio I noticed that it was dominated by “holiday” music—snow, gifts, santa etc. Even the real Christmas music has been crowded out by the commercial stuff over the years but I found myself seeking the real thing.
Many of us are seeking the real Catholic music.
We’ve added 99 selections of Gregorian Chant to our website (in a player toward the bottom of the page). Supposedly, they are not the “purest” form of Gregorian (according to commentary on Amazon), but it makes for nice looping background while surfing the Net. http://rosaryforpeace.com

There is nothing more heavenly than singing Palestrina.
I looked around for something to exemplify your comment and found this . . .

Wow, these guys can sing!
Sicut cervus (Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina) - New York Polyphony

Polyphony is unique in that instead of just the sopranos singing the melody, all the parts share in the melody. It is a dream to sing and it feels like I am singing with an angelic choir.
William Byrd was an English composer and learned his craft from the famed Thomas Tallis. Because of the Reformation William Byrd's status as premier choirmaster and Royal composer working for Elizabeth was reduced to giving pitches.
Thank you for bringing up Palestrina. I have wanted to post some good music to the forum. We are fortunate to have so much media easily available today, but there’s nothing like hearing (or singing) it in person.
In case you don’t still have this whole thread open, I found an amazing quartet called New York Polyphony...after hearing them in this video, I’d definitely like to see them in person.

There was an English polyphonic group I got to hear last year. They were on tour and I heard them at the cathedral in Dallas.
Thank you for sharing.
Often the traditional Christmas carol music when it comes to the radio really does not get played until Christmas Eve Day or on Christmas Day itself.
You might want to print this (from source) for your choir directors (both of them)
Oh, thank you! I will use this as a “soul resource.” I pure fresh stream gradually dissolving the crusted crud in my mind! :o)
Very Beautiful, thank you. Bonne mère, priez pour nous!
*Tips hat* You’re welcome, Mrs. Don-o! :)
