I am no fan of Pentecostalism, but is a reach even for you. Isn’t Rome deeply involved in exorcisms and demonic “warfare”? What is your point?

See above. They must protect their idol.

Sounds like liberal left FoggyBottom head propaganda. Anything that competes with the spread of Islam in Africa is to be demonized. Why do people here at FR promote this?

Because in the interest of the incessant promotion of elitist Rome and the fantasy of it here, it a diversion attention away from those who exposes its nature.

I read the entire article. This is why, when Jesus sent his disciples out to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers and cast out demons, he added; “You received without paying, give without pay.” (Matthew 10:8)

I wouldn’t rule out demonic stuff going on. I think I’d like to see more done, for example, to distinguish four-year-old boys who are cutting up because they’re possessed from four-year-old boys who are cutting up because they’re four-year-old boys. Having been young once, I realize it can be hard to tell the difference. Which is all the more reason why it needs to be done.

I’m curious as to why this particular story regarding fears of witchcraft among African Pentecostals piques the interest of our FR Catholic contingent.

It’s not as if there aren’t many, many examples of similar tales from Catholic areas in third world countries. It’s not as if fears of witchcraft and exorcisms are not also Catholic.

Four months ago, after Blessings got into a quarrel with a neighbor, his pastor at one of Malawi's many recently established Pentecostal churches told his family that the boy had been bewitched. After participating in what believers call a "deliverance" ceremony and being anointed with holy water -- a service in exchange for which many congregants are encouraged to make a donation -- he was pronounced cured.

There is a charismatic Catholic contingent and since non-Catholics are not know for the use of holy water, but rather Catholics are, then it is reasonable to conclude that this is Catholic charismatic stuff going on.

It also fits the MO of Catholicism expecting donations, as was the case with indulgences, for example.

NYers post is rather transparent as being a response to another expose of the liberal nature of Rome from the Vanishing Catholics thread.

Lol ... it's just a post ... period. Nothing more, nothing less. No need to psychoanalyze why it was posted. Just enjoy it!

Zot - Thank you. Jesus’s marching order for all of us.

Nyer & Salvation, this is what Zot posted to me:

Also, the baptismal water can be consider holy water. The point of baptism is washing away all that is detrimental.

It’s not as if there aren’t many, many examples of similar tales from Catholic areas in third world countries. It’s not as if fears of witchcraft and exorcisms are not also Catholic.

I know of no Pentecostal denomination which charges a fee.

Also, the baptismal water can be consider holy water. The point of baptism is washing away all that is detrimental.

No, 'baptismal water' is not considered 'holy water', not in any Protestant/Evangelical/Pentecostal setting (well, maybe in the liturgical denominations). As with anything, the matter is spiritual.

Elsie,

Yes, it is through praying to Jesus for Him to remove demons, that exorcism is done. No other way works.

You tell me. Quite a few FRoman Catholics already call all Protestants "snake handlers".
