Pray for our American Heroes

Dear Father, we thank You for the gift of a new day, for all the time You give us.

Lord, we pray for the men and women in our military, that You would protect them as they serve and direct their hearts in Your way.

Father, as the Iraqi government battles al-Qaeda for control in certain cities, we ask You to grant them success – in their war with al-Qaeda, and in building peace among their people.

LORD, as a woman unfaithful to her husband, so all our race has been unfaithful to You – rejecting You, turning to other gods, displacing You with other loves and other lords. But in and through and after it all, You show Your love to us again and again. Because of Your great mercy, we are not consumed, for Your compassions never fail; they are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness! You have purchased us back from sin and death; You have made safe and sure the way that leads back to You. We thank You for Your gracious, persistent, almighty love, and we pray that You would give us undivided hearts to love and to follow You, in the Name of Christ who saves us, Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.

AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and envelop them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
