Pro-abort Girl Scout CEO receives award at Mass from Cardinal Dolan
A Blog for Dallas Area Catholics ^ | April 24, 2013 | Blog

Posted on 01/05/2014 8:07:24 PM PST by Arthur McGowan

The current head of the Girls Scouts USA, Anna Maria Chavez, is a nominal Catholic with strong ties to numerous pro-abort politicians, and served as an apparatchik for the democrat party for many years. She has campaigned repeatedly for pro-abort politicians. And yet, in spite of the massive problems with the Girl Scouts overall, and their current CEO in particular, Cardinal Dolan saw fit to bestow an award on Ms. Chavez, the “St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal.”

This is a classic example of preach does not match action or practice.

Matthew 21:28-31 NASB

“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you.

It is the classic case of “do as I say, but pay no attention to what I do.” The RC American bishops and cardinals all supported obamacare when it was proposed. They had to know Obama was not going to give exemptions to the churches and faith based organisations. Even if they thought the churches would get contraceptive and abortion exemptions WRT obamacare, society would still advance further into the culture of death and immorality with it passed. Yet they act surprised now and call obamacare intrusive. Why then did they support it in the first place?

The answer is social justice, the liberation theology wing of the RC church saw seeing the physical needs of the poor higher than life issues and other morals like sex change operations being paid for. So we see the actual priorities for at least the American RC clergy.

Back to the “what one says should equal what one does” theme we have this which tells us actions are louder than words:

Matthew 21:28-32 NASB

“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.

Yes. And it’s the same Dolan who said of the pro-abortion governor of New York, Paterson, that: “He’s a Catholic who takes his Christian faith very seriously.”

There are countless examples of Dolan showing that he doesn’t think being pro-abortion is any big deal.

The bishop of Covington, Ky., Roger Foys, told his assembled priests, when the HHS Abortion Mandate came out: “I didn’t see this coming.”

In other words, he’s an idiot.

There are many, especially the ones who get themselves into the influential positions in the USCCB, who are just plain leftist—including being pro-abortion.

What is really troubling is that Rome shows NO indication that they understand what wretched episcopal appointments they have been making around the world. Every day, in the news, are stories showing that the vast majority of bishops buy into the major hoaxes of the left, like global warming, and socialist schemes in general. In the U.S. alone we have careerist frauds like Dolan. We have José Gomez, campaigning tirelessly to increase the pro-abortion majority in the U.S. by bringing in more immigrants—when immigrants vote 70% for pro-abortion politicians.

There is NO HOPE that this Pope will send us bishops who understand the threat that our socialist, pro-abortion government poses to the survival of the Church in the U.S. We cannot be “obsessed” with abortion, you know.

Thanks for the honest reply padre. I remember when obamacare was up for House vote and how some (there were a few then) pro life democrats were reassured by some of the bishops not to worry about passing the Bill.

I wish we could get Rome to stop sending us pro-abortion bishops.

I wish that we could get Rome to stop sending us naïve and cowardly bishops.

And I also wish Rome would stop teaching that we can trust civil government (or, for that matter, any civil institution) to do any good for people (because, combined with their naïveté and cowardice, that translates into putting themselves in subjugation to evil).

Consider the following:

For example, Pius X very clearly outlined the responsibility of bishops toward labor unions:

7. Furthermore, if Catholics are to be permitted to join the trade unions, these associations must avoid everything that is not in accord, either in principle or practice, with the teachings and commandments of the Church or the proper ecclesiastical authorities. Similarly, everything is to be avoided in their literature or public utterances or actions which in the above view would incur censure.

The Bishops, therefore, should consider it their sacred duty to observe carefully the conduct of all these associations and to watch diligently that the Catholic members do not suffer any harm as a result of their participation. The Catholic members themselves, however, should never permit the unions, whether for the sake of material interests of their members or the union cause as such, to proclaim or support teachings or to engage in activities which would conflict in any way with the directives proclaimed by the supreme teaching authority of the Church, especially those mentioned above. Therefore, as often as problems arise concerning matters of justice or charity, the Bishops should take the greatest care to see that the faithful do not overlook Catholic moral teaching and do not depart from it even a finger's breadth.

How many bishops scrutinize labor unions for their policies?

And, for that matter, when was the last time you saw the above quote referenced or reiterated by any modern-day issuance of the Holy See? (Note, as for myself, the closest I've seen in any modern issuance was a quote from Laborem Exercens, Unions do not have the character of political parties struggling for power; they should not be subjected to the decision of political parties or have too close links with them -- and that was over 30 years ago).

Or, take the UN. How much evil has come out of that organization? Yet the Holy See seems to have no problem with giving a de facto imprimatur to that organization (though, granted, they do lobby against some of the most egregious policies).

Or, for that matter, take socialized medicine. Or any number of other issues.

Pope Boniface VIII talked about there being two swords of power: the temporal and the spiritual...and this, all the way back at the opening of the 14th century. He clearly stated that both exist, but that the temporal sword must be subordinated to the spiritual sword (Hence we must recognize the more clearly that spiritual power surpasses in dignity and in nobility any temporal power whatever, as spiritual things surpass the temporal). Yet, for whatever reason, we are seeing de facto if not de jure that the Church is perfectly happy to have the spiritual sword be suborned to the material sword.

Until that gets fixed...or at least until that material sword is cut away and cast off...we can expect to see wimps like Dolan and Donna Wuerl be installed in place, while we can expect courage to be the exception rather than the rule.

All but one or two unions (and all public-employee unions) are collection agencies for the Abortion Party. Has any bishop in the U.S. EVER made any utterance about this situation?

My bet: No.

I think I know why Donna Wuerl sells the Blessed Sacrament to Nancy Pelosi and other baby-killers. Besides money.

"Christian Humanism" has been suborned to secular humanism, in part by ignoring the teachings of pre-conciliar popes such as St. Pius X.

Been there, done that. It’s not the Mass...it’s the politics. This is just one more straw on the camel’s back. What gives Dolan the authority to state that Catholics would have been cheerleaders for Obamacare were it not for the contraception issue? Ditto for his stance on immigration reform and income equality.

Like I said it is ALL ABOUT the contraception mandate, NOT ABOUT
our healthcare freedom as a people! If it were NOT for the contraception
mandate the church, MY CHURCH would be COMPLETELY for this
healthcare law!!!

FWIW, I think recruiting your clergy from young celebate men has some consequences. Paul told Timothy to consider men who were married and mature in the faith. Not throwing stones here, but perhaps if it was allowed to have both demographics in your church may solve some of these issues. A few bishops who have been married raised a few kids may add a perspective the Roman Catholic church is in need of.

Food for thought.

Oh, I’m sure you don’t want me to post the entire list of links where Bishops came out against Obamacare. It just wasn’t a few!

If your list includes public statements prior to the passage of the bill , then that would be good info to post so the Catholic church faithful can know who they are dealing with. I gather more bishops came on line once the "surprise" was over.

Thanks quite a list. As I posted a bit after this post, most of the articles of outrage are post passage of obamacare. Either the bishops were like most of Congress and passed the bill before reading it, most of these articles are “right of the boom.”

” A few bishops who have been married raised a few kids may add a perspective the Roman Catholic church is in need of.”

In the context here, about what?

Using artificial contraception is a sin. Always has been. How will a married priesthood change that? (Note that up until the Lambeth Convention of —IIRC— 1935, all Christian denominations taught that, whether they allowed married clergy or not)

Abortion is sinful, whether the clergy is married or not.

And so on.

(And, FYI, a large portion of clergy are married. Permanent Deacons are generally either married or widowers, Anglican Use priests may be married prior to ordination, Eastern Rite priests, also. Priests who were clergy as Protestants are often granted dispensations to be ordained while married, and so on. One of the priest-bloggers who is posted here fairly often, Dwight Longenecker, is married. While not the norm, it’s hardly that rare)

So, seriously, perhaps you can share how generally allowing married men to be ordained as priests would change anything in the context of this thread...

The Catholic Church’s teaching on contraception and abortion has nothing whatsoever to do with the opinions of bishops. Even if bishops’ opinions were to change as a result of being married, this could have no effect on the teaching of the Catholic Church regarding sodomy (contraception) or the killing of babies (abortion).
