Francis: Christian or Muslim, the faith your parents instilled in you will help you move on
Rome Reports ^ | 1-20-2014

Pope Francis' visit with a group of refugees at the Sacred Heart parish can best be described as simple, warm, and relaxed.

POPE FRANCIS "Thank you. Because by welcoming everyone as family, you make anyone that comes in feel like family. Today I am here and I feel at home, like family. Thank you very much. But I am missing one thing: Mariana hasn't offered me any mate.”

To get to Italy, many of the refugees had to endure many hardships, even the loss of friends and family. Pope Francis said that to lighten the weight of their suffering, they should share their pain among one another, helping and encouraging each other despite any differences in beliefs.

POPE FRANCIS "Sharing our experience in carrying that cross, to expel the illness within our hearts, which embitters our life: it is important that you do this in your meetings. Those that are Christian, with the Bible, and those that are Muslim, with the Quran. The faith that your parents instilled in you will always help you move on.”

In addition to meeting with refugees, the Pope also met with the homeless that depend on the parish for help.

POPE FRANCIS "Hold on to hope. Hope never lets down. Never! True hope. And thank you very much for helping each other, for this friendship in helping each other to move forward in life.”

Pope Francis' visit marked the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. The Parish is close Rome's central train station, Termini. That's the starting point for many people arriving at the Eternal City, in search of a better life.

Although I don’t necessarily agree with the Pope’s statement about faith and parents helping one to move on, especially if one doesn’t study the Holy Bible, his statement brought the biblically recorded events of the life of the Apostle Paul to mind. Undoubtedly there are Muslims who will likewise have their spiritual eyes of faith opened by the Lord.

On the other hnad, with all due respect to Pope Frances, I sometimes think that he needs to learn how to show less tolerance for unrepentant sinners the way that Jesus did with the teachers of the law and the Pharisees in Matthew 23. In fact, Matthew 18:15-17 shows that Jesus taught all Christians to treat unrepentent sinners like a pagan or tax collector.

Actually Mr. Pope, your

“those that are Muslim, with the Quran. The faith that your parents instilled in you will always help you move on.”

You are quite in error- for Christians will not be throatslit for reading the Koran to see what is in it, but Muslims will have their throats slit and eyes gouged out for even trying to learn anything about Christianity -
Besides moslem children are FORCED by parental threats, not INSTILLED, to recite the Koran everyday over n over n over in Arabic, even if they do not speak Arabic but speak Pashtu etc.
In California I knew a moslem guy who converted to Catholicism, and disappeared in 2 weeks, never to be hearcd of again. yup.

This pope appears to be an idiot.

Good grief. He is imploding. What is Francis - a warm-up act for the anti-Christ?

He has been identified by
Saint Malachy, a 12th‑century
Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland
as "Peter the Roman".

I’m sure the faith the parents instilled in their suicide bomber children helped them to move on into a crowded shopping mall to kill as many infidels as possible.

A friend of mine who left the Catholic Church said he came to the conclusion that the Church didn’t want him to read the Bible. Instead they’d tell him what he needed to know. I’m sure the Pope has read the Bible. But obviously he hasn’t read any newspapers.

We know what the Bible helps you to move on to - but the question is: What does the quran help you to ‘move on’ to?

As a Catholic Christian, please clarify, Francis.

Or maybe he was misinterpreted - again?

I sure don’t know what to make of this pope.

>> There's no grief greater than that of those in Hell. That's just one of my points. <<

Pope Francis mentioned nothing about the afterlife in his comments, or the fate of a person's soul. It was entirely a statement about how a person's religious faith can help them cope with many hardships they endure in life, including losing their friends and family.

That's "controversial" to you?

This is the biggest non-story on FR since a bunch of freepers were "outraged" by John McCain mentioning he might do what EVERY Republican President in history has done, and have a Democrat or two serving in his cabinet (most likely it would have been Joe Lieberman as Sec. of Defense. Ohhh! SHOCKING!) I guess they missed when the first 43 Presidents said the same thing and announced cabinet appointments across party lines.

As a fellow Catholic Christian, have you actually read the Quran? There are numerous sections where it mimics the Bible (often deliberately). Just because a religion is false, don't mean every single page of their holy book is the opposite of yours.

I agree with BillyBoy. Mother Teresa did the same as Pope Francis, and was faulted as well. But if your walk in life is about peacemaking, and I think the Pope is in that vein, what he said doesn’t ring any alarms with me. Pray for the man; pray for us all—we need it!
