I am only recalling what I have read. But I stand by the number. It was largely a matter of where the Army got its bodies from, which would be from major urban areas, where there were lots of Catholics, and a function of education. Cannon fodder ring a bell?

FDR didn’t win the Protestant christian’s vote in 1940, but of course he won the Catholic vote by a huge margin.

I want to see those figures telling us that 40% of WWII American combat vets were Catholics.

I also want to see your source for the Catholic veteran vote in the 1952 elections and the other elections you claim.

Over the years we have had some internet sleaze ball here making up just about the same thing, and he also responds in just about the same way when called on it, year after year.

You need to give us a source for your made up claims, and I hope it isn't you that keeps posting this over and over.

You can believe it or not. But my guess is that you don’t like the figures,, which are plausible enough. Do I really have to show that Manhattan, for instance, was largely a Catholic Island in 1940?

You can’t just make up things as fake facts and post them on freerepublic.

You posted very specific claims about the Catholic veteran vote in the 1952 election and on American combat soldiers in WWII.

You need to stop doing this.

I’m not making it up. 40% is a ballpark figure, which is plausible on the face of it. Catholics were about 25% of the population in 1940, and concentrated in the urban and industrial areas of Midwest and Northeast. They were also less educated, and so in an army where a guy who read “Life” Magazine was thought to be an intellectual, people drafted from such places would tend to end up in combat arms. Southerners were also over-represented. But if you don’t like deductions, that is your problem.

You can’t just keep making up such fake facts.

Now show us the data for Catholic veteran voting in presidential elections.

"What amazed me is how stubbornly persistent these attitudes have been. My Irish family has been in the country for over 130 years. Many went on to great professional success as lawyers, etc. Yet they still retain the old Democrat voting patterns. When pressed they will generally answer “Because my grandparents did. Because they’re for the WORKIN’ MAN!” Whether that is in any way true or not."--snip--"I have no reason to believe that if they get amnesty, the new wave of Hispanic Catholics will be any different."

When Catholics, white, Hispanic or whatever, move to a different Christian denomination, we usually see them also abandon liberal anti-God, anti-American, even internationalist politics.

A very interesting read. I see Obama stickers at my church and I just cannot understand it. Fortunately, however, I see far more Tea Party stickers.

And you keep calling them “fake” facts? I am not insisting on accuracy, but this number is quite plausible. I repeat, you are free to disregard and disdain, but “false” means not true. Now you have made a claim. Prove it.

That isn't the way it works. "Catholics were 40% of combat Veterans during World War II. Ike got more Catholics than Dewey did in ’52, owing to the veterans vote.

Quit making up nonsense, it is called lying.

This you don’t like? If you disagree with what I said in this post please explain why you are at FR.

Would I liked to have seen FDR run out of office in 1940, and the democrats lose every election since?

You betcha.

FDR losing would have been great.

I'm sorry, I just find you amusing. I've come to realize that you actually spend all day on the internet trying to prove that your denomination of Christianity is better or righter or whatever than somebody else's denomination of Christianity.

What a silly obsession.

You've reduced matters of personal faith to the level of arguing over sports teams. Like the Boston Red Sox are better than the NY Yankees. And then, just like a sports geek, you come up with some old stats you find on the internet to make your case.

You never answered my question as to what end you are pursuing, so I can only conclude that you want to prove that your team is number one. Good luck!

Protestants are awesome. Sincerely.

I think it is called offering an argument based on deduction. I think you don’t care for the conclusion, so you hurl insult.

It is called making up fake facts and lying.

I think that this isn’t the first time that we have had this conversation about these made up “facts”.

You can’t just make up fake statistics and WWII history and election data.

It seems conservative pro-life politics don’t interest everyone here, or if they do, some seem to be on the wrong side.

I can see why you defend the Catholic vote and the importation of millions more Catholic voters. and mock the republican voters.

LOL! You just make stuff up. That's a weird debating style. I didn't defend or mock anybody.

I said that Protestants are awesome, and you guys are!

This isn’t a debating site, and if you aren’t defending the Catholic vote and the importation of more of them, then your childish posts make even less sense that they do already.

Since the Catholic vote goes democrat, the protestant vote goes against the democrats, and the Evangelical vote is massively anti-democrat, I would prefer that everyone vote like Evangelicals, but the Catholic vote is killing us, and the relevant fact is, that the democrats import them by the millions because of how they vote.

No, I'm not defending the Catholic voting patterns, they should vote better. I can only vote for myself, so I don't have any business vouching for or lamenting if people who share some trait with me vote differently than I do. Why would I be interested in that?

Protestants are awesome. Truly. Best voters!
