The Catholic Roots of Obama’s Activism
New York Times ^ | MARCH 22, 2014 | JASON HOROWITZ

In a meeting room under Holy Name Cathedral, a rapt group of black Roman Catholics listened as Barack Obama, a 25-year-old community organizer, trained them to lobby their fellow delegates to a national congress in Washington on issues like empowering lay leaders and attracting more believers.

“He so quickly got us,” said Andrew Lyke, a participant in the meeting who is now the director of the Chicago Archdiocese’s Office for Black Catholics. The group succeeded in inserting its priorities into the congress’s plan for churches, Mr. Lyke said, and “Barack Obama was key in helping us do that.”

By the time of that session in the spring of 1987, Mr. Obama — himself not Catholic — was already well known in Chicago’s black Catholic circles. He had arrived two years earlier to fill an organizing position paid for by a church grant, and had spent his first months here surrounded by Catholic pastors and congregations. In this often overlooked period of the president’s life, he had a desk in a South Side parish and became steeped in the social justice wing of the church, which played a powerful role in his political formation.

In 1967, as the modernizing changes of the Second Vatican Council began to transform the Catholic world, Ann Dunham, Mr. Obama’s mother, took her chubby 6-year-old son occasionally to Mass and enrolled him in a new Catholic elementary school in Jakarta, Indonesia, called Santo Fransiskus Asisi. At school, the future president began and ended his days with prayer. At home, his mother read him the Bible with an anthropologist’s eye.

Is it a stretch to think that the young Obama might have had his beliefs shaped by his years at that school? The question must be asked: What did he learn and when did he learn it at Santo Fransiskus Asisi? Is it possible that President Obama is a secret Catholic? (I'm not the first person to raise the question, btw.)

Obama cleverly hid his Catholic history by only mentioning it in his autobiography and several interviews. But that hasn't stopped a few reporters from pulling out the facts. The anti-Obama troops at the Washington Post did a long profile of that Catholic school earlier this year....

....As any reader of "The DaVinci Code" knows, the Catholic Church can keep its secrets for centuries. How implausible is it that a Dutch Catholic priest running a school in Jakarta would have identified a black, American tween with an Arabic name more than 30 years ago and marked him as a future president of the United States? And programmed him to do the Vatican's bidding? Attention must be paid!

I call upon the White House press corps to ask the hard questions the next time Obama is willing to face the queries:

Are you, Mr. President, a hidden Catholic, taking orders broadcast by the pope through the antenna in that tall hat he wears? Can you prove you are not a Catholic? If so, you should be able to produce a certificate of non-baptism signed by the priest who didn't baptize you.

Catholic bashing is now the national pastime. Now the Left is blaming the Catholics, their educational infrastructure and social ideals for Obama’s disastrous Presidency.

Not to worry, they'll go after the SBC as well so we'll have company. Senior Statesman Jimmy Carter just said that Catholics and the SBC were responsible for all the abuse of women in the world so it won't be long before they get a share of the blame for everything else as well.
Funny how the anti-Catholic crowd are always on exactly the same page as the MSM, huh?

Blaming it on the Catholics?

What about all the Protestants who voted for Obama?

What about all the Evangelicals who voted for Obama?

What about all the Jews who voted for Obama?

What about all the blacks of all religions who voted for Obama?

What about all the unchurched who voted for Obama?

What about all the atheists who voted for Obama?

The Catholic Church embraced Liberation Theology and Social Justice in the 20th century. Dorothy Day was a main instigator. It is acceptable and necessary for the Catholic Church to minister to the poor, but the Church began haranguing the government to take over what was their righteous mission, and that was the beginning of where it went wrong. They completely bastardized Jesus’s call to his followers to reach out to the sick and the poor by calling it Social Justice and taking it a step further by getting behind socialism. Jesus called US to minister to the sick and poor, not the government. This is why so many Catholics voted for 0bama because they identify with this social justice nonsense, while abandoning Right to Life.

The majority of Catholics, voted for Obama.

The majority of Protestants voted against Obama.

Almost 80% of Evangelicals voted against Obama.

Given the age and ethnicity of the population, you can predict the Obama voter more accurately than using religious affiliation.

The media will not investigate his obvious Mohammedanism. Let's see how far they go to prove, or rather disprove, his Catholicism.

He's a Marxist either way.

The Catholic vote and the Protestant vote have always been predictable.

The Catholic vote has gone republican about 5 times in history, and the Protestant vote has gone democrat 3 times, 1932, 1936, 1964.

The non-white, young, non-male variables are the more accurate predictors.

Typical Alex - everything wrong in the world is the fault of the Catholic Church. Have you seen anyone professionally about this?

The Catholic vote was predictable long before mass immigration from the world’s most Catholic countries, as white Catholics leave Catholicism and are replaced by Hispanics, the Catholic vote remains what it has been historically in America.

The Catholic vote and the Protestant vote have always been predictable.

I’ve heard it all before.

Looking at this topic, the Obama vote - age, ethnicity and sex are the accurate predictors - more than religious affiliation.
