SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 31, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Speaking with LifeSiteNews about the matter of worthiness to receive Holy Communion last week, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said that Church teaching on the matter has been very clear and consistent from literally the very beginning."
The Church's teaching goes "all the way back to St. Paul who writes in 1 Corinthians that anyone who does not receive the Eucharist worthily, that is if they are in a state of sin, blasphemes the body and blood of the Lord," the archbishop explained.

What you say is true, leaf, but they will always be Catholic, because the marks of their Baptisms and Confirmations do no disappear from their souls. They will have to answer for their actions.
My wife is ex-Catholic. But she is a Christian so the teachings of Catholicism that are unique to that organization really mean absolutely nothing to her or her salvation. It’s not her church.
The leader of San Francisco’s 444,000 Catholics noted that those who would dissent “from a defined Church teaching” and those who would violate the moral teaching of the Church in a serious way, “are not properly disposed to receive Holy Communion.”
“As St. Paul teaches, if they dare to approach knowing that they are in such a state of sin, they bring condemnation upon themselves,” he said. “This is not a harsh judgment of the Church, but our understanding of the Eucharist is that it is not simply a way of welcoming people, a way of affirming people.”
He concluded by noting that the sacrament of penance is there for all Catholics who find themselves in such situations so they can “confess their sins and receive sacramental absolution to be restored to a state of grace so they can worthily receive Holy Communion.”

I met and talked for about 30 minutes to this Archbishop waiting for a plane to London. What a handsome, holy man who KNOWS he has his work cut out for him in SF!! PRAY FOR HIM!!
Indeed. They've been talking the talk for years.
.....Maybe even do REPENTENCE.
They will have to answer for their actions?
Really, says who? Dispensing guilt is a hallmark of Catholicism. So happy to have left that religious sect.
Your sins are your responsibility.
Christ died for them. Why don’t you believe you are responsible for your own sins?
OSAS is a false doctrine.
You need to read some of the NDE stories. They tell about going to heaven, seeing their entire life flas in front of them and then being sent back because it was not their time to die.
You WILL see your sin of denial at the moment of your death according to them.
I recommend a book by Dr. Jeffrey Long, Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near Death Experiences.
In it he tells the medical side of each situation and then the person’s viewpoint as they die momentarily. A good read for any scientist.
She will come back to the church.

That Niederauer was ever an archbishop, and that he continued to be one even one day more, let alone five years more until reaching voluntary/mandatory retirement age, puts the lie to the current archbishop's statement that "Church teaching on the matter has been very clear and consistent from literally the very beginning."
Probably not a good idea to read NDE stories and draw spiritual conclusions - it’s a dangerous path to go down. Prolly not a good idea either to look to Dr. Jeffrey’s book for “Evidence of the Afterlife.” God’s Word, the Holy Bible, is the one and final word on the afterlife for the believer.
What do you think about the upcoming movie based on a true story and remember now, the father is a Christian minister and this is a Christian family we are talking about and one little child’s journey to Heaven called which will come out this month, just in time for Easter called “Heaven Is For Real” ? Even the children’s book does confirms by this one child’s experience what the Bible teaches about Heaven. Got to remember Jesus’s position about little children.
Besides, that book that I mentioned is the best one IMHO about NDE’s.
There is a much more conservative bishop.
I think it will be a good movie. Let’s hope it is Christ-centered and the sweet name of JESUS is mentioned often, because we all know “Heaven Is For Real” for only those who know The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
I was confused for a second, about you mentioning a book about NDE’s because only “SALVATION” mentioned a book. I see now that the same person goes by two different handles on Free Republic - SALVATION & BIGGIRL. Got it.
