Explaining the Heresy of Catholicism (John MacArthur)
Grace To You ^ | Pastor John MacArthur

Posted on 05/26/2014 4:13:56 PM PDT by Dr. Thorne

Praying to Mary, celebrating the Mass, venerating the Pope—you won’t find those doctrines in the Bible. And yet more than one billion Roman Catholics throughout the world follow such practices in line with the official teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.

With that many Catholics around the globe, it’s likely you know some of them as relatives, friends, neighbors, or co-workers. Find out what they don’t know—the origin and error of Catholic doctrine—so you can help the Catholics you know out of the darkness and into the light.

Whilst I find the “on-going battle” here on Free Republic between our Roman Catholic and Protestant friends illuminating, I come here mainly for the political news, debate, etc.

That said, I find it a bit odd that there is such acrimony in some of the comments I have read — from both sides of the battle.

Odd because both groups have much in common.

For example, I would imagine that most Protestants would be surprised to learn that in a typical RCC mass there is more of the Holy Scriptures read than in your typical Protestant service. A lot more. The RCC, as far as I can tell, has a deep, loving respect for the Word of God.

I would further imagine that our RCC friends would be surprised that most — if not all — Protestants would agree wholeheartedly with the words of the Nicene Creed and the Apostles’ Creed, even though these two creeds are rarely if ever read at most Protestant church services - save the Lutherans and Anglicans and perhaps a few others.

As far as I can tell: both Catholics and Protestants worship and serve the same God; they both believe “for us men and for our salvation He [i.e., Christ] came down from heaven”; both believe in a Heaven and perhaps a Hell, etc.

So much they have in common. So very, very much.

It is sad that FR sees it as part of their mission to provide a space for catholics and protestants to bash each other on public.

There was a horrible thread last night from the roman perspective that was just horrible. And they refused to take it down.

And if the mod takes this one down after leaving the roman atrocity up last night, I call bias.

Not so. We don't worship the same God.

Catholics pray to Mary, imputing omniscience to her. That is an attribute of God alone. Therefore, they are saying that she is God by their very act of prayer.

John Paul II wanted to make Mary a "co-redemptrix" with Jesus Christ. In other words, he believed that we could be saved through Mary, not just Jesus. That is not Christianity and is a blatant refutation of Christ Himself when He said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me."

Catholics are not Christians unless they believe what Christ said about Himself.

That’s right. False doctrine breeds corruption. It has been proven throughout the ages by the utterly corrupt Catholic church. I heard that joke 50 years ago, long before the horrible truth came out in the press. Everybody knew what was up with priests.

Have you read the Bible? Really? Cover to cover? If you haven’t, you only know what priests tell you and they are sinners just like the rest of us.

Do you pray to Mary? How does she hear you unless she is omniscient. Omniscience is ONLY of God. Your prayer is a statement that Mary is God.

I pray to Jesus. He is God, He is omniscient and that's why He can hear me.

Yes, they are sinners just like the rest of us, just like Pastor MacArthur, And yes, I have read the Bible cover to cover. May I point out the part of the Gospels where Christ says to love your enemies and pray for your persecutors? You seem to have skipped that part.

What about those who reject both teachings of Catholicism and Calvinism that John MacArthur teaches?

I’m not pious at all. I’ve never suggested that I am. I am a believer and truthteller. The truth is very painful to those who live a lie. Don’t expect me to be some sweet talking wimp who won’t stand up to falsehood. If this thread hurts you, then you are not very strong in your false faith.

How do you know who I pray for? I do pray for all those who don’t know Jesus as their Savior. That includes Catholics who believe that Mary or some other dead person is going to do something for them. Jesus is omniscient. Mary is not. Pray to Him.
