How often does your pastor preach against abortion annually?

Most pro-lifers I know complain their pastor doesn’t talk about the abortion issue enough. So how often is that? Vote on the lower right side of the home page.

Yes I did and I’m just saying to all of those who give a “political” answer I don’t want to hear it. Hey you tell me when your next pro life sermon is and I’ll be in your church in the front pew! Not kidding (providing you are not on the west coast or at least with in a reasonable distance near me) Better yet do you record your sermons? I’ll watch it!!!

I have just grown so tired of hearing excuses from local pastors in my area that I am developing a short fuse and I apologize if I seem to be attacking you personally.

I have been to churches where (and this is no joke) they will attach the Catholic Church but not one thing is said about abortion being murder, about the prolife movement, about why we could support life, why we should vote prolife and on and on.

Did you see the word "pro-life" appear at any point in that post? Now, here's a text from Genesis 45, my chapter for this week.

Gen 45: 16 When the news reached Pharaoh's palace that Joseph's brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased. 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Tell your brothers, 'Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan, 18 and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.'

Being true to the Bible, what is that scripture about?

You would never get a decent church here on the West coast based on you first sentence. The best you’d probably get is an almost dead church with high maintenance costs.

There isn’t much difference in the views you mention here between the Methodist Church here and the Episcopal Church in the U.S.(not the ones the ones that separated).

I’ve been told by two different ministers that they considered breaking with the denomination over the first two issues, but decided to be a “reconciling” group. Of course that could be because of the structure of t h e church and they’d lose the buildings, pensions, etc.

No killing is not killing in terms of the 10 commandments. Properly that commandment should be read thou shall not murder. I find myself in line with the Catholic churches position on sanctity of life and t h e just war doctrine.

Abortion for convenience, gender selection and similar reasons to me is murder on the other hand to save the life/health of the mother isn’t. There are gray areas especially in mental health areas.

BTW Pastor, aborting an alive unborn human being is murder. Yet there are passages in the OT where God instructed to wipe out the entire population of a group, right down to the unborn and swaddled. Greater minds than mine have tried to explain that one away, but I am still perplexed by the duplicity ...

Where did you get it?

Abortion is always murder, even under the constitution the accused has a right to a trial and to be confronted by his accusers.

It is one of the sad mysteries that Christians can so ardently support abortion on demand. As Christians we are instructed to accept children as a blessing, so to slaughter an alive unborn blessing should be anathema to a Christian. But it is not for so many. I have an ex-wife for whom the issue is closed; she supports abortion on demand as solely a woman's right. Sad what that has led to, but I will not enumerate.

That comment is of my own making, and it seems to summarize how fedzilla has dealt with churches and Christians in our era.

And people fool themselves into believing that our societies are improving - I think they are retrograde! The cops will arrest kids for having a little weed but not go after these scum who use and abuse women - where does the Moose stand on this? I am fairly sure there is a lot of this in Sydney’s Asian Quarter and in other parts of my country - not all is prostitution they are forced to work in restaurants and clothing workshops as well for years to pay the cost of being brought into the country.

That is a mystery to me, also. How can they be so vehemently against murder, killing in general, capital punishment, and even traffic accidents, but somehow they arrive at the conclusion that slicing and dicing some innocent little baby in the womb is just a fine thing to do.

How do you go from an aching heart over Jesus being crucified to suctioning the brains of a baby in the womb?

I will never understand it.

I agree with that. They would stick us biblical Christian pastors in some backwater with what they consider to be a bunch of nothing.

But, the entire point that most of Methodism has forgotten is that that's the way it's supposed to be. We're not supposed to get promoted to gradually bigger churches as part of what they call a "successful career in pastoral ministry."

I think God would approve of the "grow your own" concept. The Book of Acts was about going where they didn't have anything at all and getting something started. We biblical Christians are ok with that, but these folks would think they were injuring us by giving us a building, a tiny starter group, and local funding.

It's almost funny thinking of them funding their own demise.

That is really splitting hairs you know. Cain killed Able, but if he were tried in a court of law today more than likely he would be found guilty of manslaughter.

Then there is 1st and 2nd degree murder.

Killing is killing, someone is dead by your hands does not matter how it happened.

Murder is essentially the unjustified taking of a life. All killing is not murder. If person A is in the process of trying to kill you and you manage to kill them instead it’s not murder. Killing an enemy during a just war in generally isn’t murder though it can be (under our law, Geneva Convention and Catholic Just War Doctrine.). For example killing an unarmed soldier who has surrendered and doesn’t present a threat would in most cases be murder.

We have chosen to split murder into a number of different categories and given them different names to reflect their threat to society. Conscious premeditated unjustified killing being the most serious down to the accidental killing of someone being the least serious. Even premeditated murder has levels depending on threat to society. We usually refer to those as enhanced circumstances such as killing a cop or judge.
