Do Evangelical Churches Have to Accept Gay Marriage to Attract Millennials?

Must Evangelical churches change or downplay their position on homosexuality to attract millennials?

Millennials, generally defined as those ages 18 to mid-30s, are the most supportive of redefining marriage to include same-sex couples, many polls show. A recent Public Religion Research Institute poll had their support at 69 percent, the highest of any age group.

Even among self-described Evangelicals, the millennials showed the highest level of support at 43 percent (though the poll only included white Evangelicals), compared to 33 percent for generation X, 22 percent for Baby Boomers and 19 percent for those 68 and older. The poll also found that 70 percent of millennials "believe that religious groups are alienating young adults by being too judgmental about gay and lesbian issues."

Some Evangelicals have pointed to this and similar studies to argue that Evangelical churches need to end their opposition to same-sex marriage or they will die off.

The church's "obsessions with opposing gay marriage," Evangelical author Rachel Held Evans wrote in March for CNN as she pointed out the PRRI report, is one of the reasons "evangelicalism is losing a generation to the culture wars."

Other media outlets appear eager to report that Evangelicals will end their opposition to same-sex marriage and stop teaching that homosexuality is a sin. "Evangelicals Are Changing Their Minds on Gay Marriage: And the Bible isn't getting in their way," religion reporter Jim Hinch wrote Monday for Politico.

For evidence that Evangelicals are changing their minds on gay marriage, Hinch points to Pew Research polling showing that support for same-sex marriage among white Evangelical Protestants jumped 10 percentage points, from 13 to 23 percent, from 2001 to 2014.

Because it is NOT about them only. They are the ones hitting "the real world" and starting to realize the world does not revolve around them excursively, and frankly most are intolerant to anything that does not.

Did the first Church accept such things? No; they preached the Gospel, and they knew it would not be a popular message.

More like the “young adults” are alienating themselves to the truth.

Churches who adapt to Political Correctness end up dying. But the poison is to sweet to avoid.

Is inviting Satan to join the choir the Christian thing to do?

This is such a deceptive message.

Whenever they talk about democracy or “attracting” or what science says, they really mean what churches should be forced to accept..

They first presume their stuff is great and then find out they are part of a scam rejected by others and they start attacking after that.

When millennials are head of the church instead of Christ, it will no longer be church.

Indeed, a church is about ministering the truth, not acceptance. gays are welcome if they accept the ministry and testimony of each. This is a blatant attempt at muzzling and shutting up other congregants who have a different word from God to them.

These people are truly of the seed of Soddom and Satan, horrible.

I don't know about that, but they ought not use his hymnal.

If homosexuality is not a sin, then is there such thing is any sexual sin? If there is no such thing as a sexual sin, then how serious are other sins such as pride?

If we are guilty of committing few sins and those we commit are not serious, then why do we need Christ or the church?

Millenials have more authority than the church, so the church must follow the Millenials?

If Gertrude Stein accused Hemingway’s generation of being The Lost Generation, I can’t imagine what she’d call the millenials.

I’d just call them the Illenials.

They want force people to have sex and be perverted, doing the sins for them... Who needs a pedophile scandal when it is the norm to reward a child for sinning for them.

No, it will be a mosque where little kids are praised and rewarded for performing sexual acts and suicide/abortion bombings for the imams.

These people are retarded... They really have an evil retarded mind and they compulsively use their wits only for lies and power.

I have left churches that went PC. Had to cater to this group to get this demographic etc.. You are correct most fall apart when the teaching moves from solid biblical teaching to world views.

Our current Church has a thriving young adult population. We teach only the word of God. Speaks to everyone at a different level.

Does the Word of God step on toes? You bet it does! Watering down the Word into a feel good tell you what you want to hear message will fill the seats. The hard to swallow stuff truth is what makes you better person. It is also what drives people away.

No Church that follows the word of God can accept gay marriage or abortion. Even though much of America has surrendered to the abortionists I believe abortion is a more serious matter. America is now drenched in the blood of millions of its aborted babies. This is not the blood our country needs to be soaked in right now.

The one saving grace here is that all this foolishness makes it easier to figure out where the real churches are.

I am a church going Catholic, indulging in the homosexual lifestyle is a Mortal Sin! We are talking about Eternal Damnation. Accepting the “gay” lifestyle and same sex marriage is dancing on the edge of going to Hell.
