Vanity - Prayers for my daughter abroad
vanity | 25 July 2014 | ZinGirl

Posted on 07/25/2014 12:40:21 PM PDT by ZinGirl

Hi - I come to you humbly asking for your thoughts and prayers for our daughter. She just went abroad as she starts her Junior year from Gettysburg College and is in Melbourne, Australia. She has been there just over 2 weeks.

Things were going great until she called this morning to say she was in the ER because she hasn't felt well, has had a headache for 2 days, and feels like she has been hit by a truck.

Long story short, she is being treated for a bacterial infection and the hospital is bringing in infectious disease doctors. Her temp was 104. She is on antibiotics and feeling better...but we are so worried.

We live in Baltimore and I feel helpless. She is a great student and has made friends, two of which have stayed with her almost the whole time. The logistics are being handled thru an organization called Arcadia, and they have been tremendous, both in Australia and the US office.

We have a wonderful support system (family and friends) praying for her and have felt their prayers as my husband and I feel so helpless....but I would truly covet and be evergrateful if you feel led to pray for us and our daughter, Christina.

I apologize ahead of time if I can't respond personally....please know I will try. God bless you.

eh....I have an old, old flip phone. :P My other daughter is the "right" kind of iPhone, but the hospital doesn't have wifi. :(

So far, we're doing OK. The prayers and thoughts from people have really helped...and the assurance that she is getting great care.

thanks! She’s a pip. She loves Dave Barry, Jerry Seinfeld, and David Thorne, along with Jim Gaffigan and, of course, RON SWANSON (she actually saw him last fall - he was great!). So THAT’S her inspiration. :)

Probably no flu shot. She has had only the legally-required ones. :P

thank you, ma - I will do my best. After such an exhausting day, I’m kind of biding my time until Australia wakes up and gets to work. :) Hoping by tonight we might have some answers.

thank you, sv - I was just sitting thinking how much better I feel since I started this thread. (I had to doublecheck with husband if it would be a good idea...he was basically, “duh - of course”. I read the prayer threads all the time and it took me all day to think, WAIT...THIS IS WHAT IT’S FOR!) *smack on forehead*

thank you, Jane! yeah - she gets her sarcasm from various sources, including *ahem* her jaded and pessimistic parents. :) I told my fav part was when she was describing the big firepits in the market: Another great thing was they had giant fire pits for people to stand around, something that would probably be illegal in the states in case someone threw themselves in it and then sued the market owners.

gee...THAT sounds like daddy. :)

May the healing hand of Almighty God touch your daughter, and may she be relieved of this infection. May He guide the doctors and nurses to provide the best care for her. And may you feel the loving embrace of the Father, assured that He has heard a mother’s prayer.
