PORTLAND – The Christian owners of a bakery in Oregon state that they will be forced into bankruptcy if the government stands by its imposition of a fine in excess of $150,000 after the couple declined to make a “wedding” cake for a lesbian because they viewed it as a form of personal participation in the event.
As previously reported, Aaron and Melissa Klein operate Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Gresham, which is now operated from the couple’s home after the Kleins’ shut their doors due to harassment. In January 2013, Aaron was approached by a mother and her daughter as the two were interested in a cake for the daughter’s upcoming wedding—to her lesbian partner.
“My first question was what’s the wedding date,” Klein told television station KTW in Portland. “My next question was [the] bride and groom’s name. … The girl giggled a little bit and said, ‘It’s two brides.’”
He stated that he then informed the women that the bakery does not make cakes for homosexual events.
“I apologized for wasting their time and said that unfortunately, we do not do same-sex marriages,” Klein explained.

“The Oregon Attorney General’s office soon launched an investigation against the Klein’s as the state’s non-discrimination laws prevent public accommodations from being denied to any individual on the basis of “race, color, religion, sex [or] sexual orientation.””
How can a state law be Constitutional when it directly violates the First Amendment?
Baking a wedding cake is a personal service. Forced personal service is slavery.
No first amendment freedom of religion

Do a little capital thinking. Go to another baker, buy the cake, resell it with 150% markup.
Any one of these bakers should go to a muslim eatery and demand a meal containing pork. When they get denied sue them.
Has this gone to court? if so how high, and what was the ruling?
Overturning this law will unwrap the entire intellectual gymnastics of the Civil Rights laws on the books today.
The USSC has ruled in the past that under the Commerce Clause of the Constitution (I sh!t you not) that Congress CAN make laws the forbid any business from deny the services of that business to anyone based on any reason related to race, ethnicity etc. that Congress cares to throw into the mix.
That's why a hotel owner cannot deny a Black man and white woman accommodation.
But ONLY if the owner cites race as the cause. Or, that can otherwise be proven.
I think that is contrary to any and everything related to Liberty.
Why are our laws and culture being driven by less than 2% of the population? And more importantly, why do we continue to allow it?
Checked the store’s website, they have cookie dough in a jar, cakes in a jar. Pretty good if you want to order stuff to support these people, in that it will travel through the mail without coming to grief the way a cake or pie may. Holidays are coming! Prices aren’t high either.
$150,000 fine. Nice, big government is awesome isn’t it. Reminds of the fascist Mike Bloomberg when I was insane enough to live in New york city, he would regularly run mom and pop shops out of business with insane over the top fines for the most minute of offenses like one guy who sold 2 inch lighters in the shape of a gun and was fined $50,000 for each one effectively putting him out of business or hotdog stand vendors fined $1000 for “not producing their license fast enough”. Absolute Gestapo tactics. About these bakers, do I even have to guess the fascists leave the Muslims completely alone?
