There are many religions in the world today such as: Baha'i, Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, Wicca, Zoroastrianism, and Druidism and it is politically correct and acceptable to mention them or their prophets such as Buddha, Mohammed, Hare Krishna and even Ron Hubbard.

You may say God because God is generic and can basically mean the God of any religion. But when the word Jesus is uttered the whole world will come crashing down on you. Why is this?
I wanted this article to be a non-religious examination of this question. But when writing about Jesus you simply cannot be secular. Though the name of Jesus is mentioned many times before this I believe that one of the most profound verses of the Bible that talk about the power associated with Jesus name is in this verse:
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
In other words, even the mention of the name of Jesus invokes in us an almost instinctive desire to bow our knee. The name Jesus also convicts. When we hear the name of Jesus we are reminded that we are not perfect and that conviction is the whispering of the Holy Spirit in our ear.
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. And this makes people---uncomfortable. People dont want to be reminded of their sins and they will do what they must to remove any mention of Jesus anywhere. The sad part about this is that the people that hate the word Jesus are probably the ones that need to hear it the most.
Something else that makes saying Jesus politically incorrect:
Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. You cant get to Heaven without Jesus? This means that all the other religions are wrong and that is politically incorrect to say. It is what they call divisive and non-inclusive. I believe that it is ok with the world for you to say any name associated with any other religion, except Christianity, because they know there is no power in it. But they know deep inside that the mere mention of Jesus name causes the Heavens and the Earth, and all the creatures contained in them, to tremble.
It is difficult to fight anti Jesus attitudes but not impossible. The first way is to simply say it. Dont be afraid to use His name and dont be afraid of the condemnation you might receive.
Ephesians 6:13-18
The verse above gives a description of the spiritual armor God gives us. We are to stand firm with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, and by praying in the Spirit.
But what do we do with this Spiritual Armor? We are to speak the truth against Satans lies. We are to rest in the fact that we are declared righteous because of Christs sacrifice for us. We are to proclaim the gospel and the name of Jesus no matter how much resistance we receive.
Ultimately the name of Jesus will be on every tongue. Lets decide now that His name will be on our tongue at every opportunity.

So true.

Thanks.
There is power in the name of Jesus. And I think that is the reason people don’t like us saying His name.
But Satan has them use it as a curse word all the time.
Sigh
Yes and I cringe inside every time I hear it. If they knew what they were doing——
Absolutely, say it a few times, then throw in another, just not the same.
Contrary to what our President might think, the most beautiful sound in the world is JESUS.
But -- at the site --- it's terrifically hard for me to read white on black background. Gives me a headache. Can that be changed?
Yes, the word God is generic, but the name of Jesus draws battle lines - and that is where you separate the wheat from the chaff.
As stated, people will go to insane lengths to avoid confronting their own sins and their own sick spiritual condition.
Jesus is where the battle front rages. Depending on what decision is made, Jesus is either the crossroads to heaven to a person, or the condemnation to hell itself.
Also, even many Christians tend to put Christ in a box that they think they can manage. He is not the Son of Man, but "my buddy JC." However, when we read the description that John wrote upon seeing the risen Christ, it is almost terrifying:
12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man,[d] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.
Revelation 1: 12-17
Furthermore, Christ tells the churches that He "knows" our deeds, our thoughts, and everything we have ever done.
Salvation is not through works, but by faith. Still, Christ knows us - every cell, every thought, every tear, every sin.
When thought of in that context, and contemplating that some have fallen from the faith, and turned back to sin - that concept is also frightening. Christ gives dire warnings to John.
Yes, God is merciful, slow to anger, and forgiving. Praise God! When I have found myself convicted of sin, I was in absolute misery and in fear. I needed to pray, to seek God, to read His word, to repent, pray some more, and to heal.
God disciplines those He loves.
This world has mostly rejected Christ. Those that are in Christ will escape the coming judgment. We don't know the day or the hour, but perhaps we can determine the season (as Christ told us to do). I think we are in the season of coming terrible judgment right now.
Humm
Let me check
And thank you for telling me
VERY well said my FR friend!
Awesome post. Thank You.
ping for later
Your very welcome. And thank you.
Such a very different description of Christ, but I like it.
**There is power in the name of Jesus.**
Absolutely! That is why the apostles obeyed the Lord’s command in Matthew 28:19, and baptized in the name (singular) “of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”, which is “Jesus”. Every detailed baptism (or instruction of baptism) in Acts, was done in the name of Jesus: 2:38; 8:12,16; 10:48; and 10:5.
Jesus Christ declared that his name was not his own, but that he came in his Father’s name (John 5:43).
Joseph was commanded by the angel to call the Son’s name JESUS (Matt. 1:21). The writer of Hebrews says that the Son “hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than” the angels. (Heb. 1:4)
And, as you pointed out in John 14:26, “..the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in MY NAME..”, is JESUS.
Paul reminded the saints at Rome, “Know ye not, that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” Romans 6:3
When reprimanding the saints at Corinth (that had become proud, bragging about who baptized them, instead of who they were baptized into), Paul said: “Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were you baptized in the name of Paul?” 1Cor. 1:13
On the day of Pentecost, when the Spirit was poured out, Peter preached the first post-ascension sermon to the lost. Who were convicted in their hearts, and responded by asking: “Men and brethern, what shall we do?”
Then Peter said unto them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call”. Acts 2:38,39.
**And I think that is the reason people dont like us saying His name.**
The Devil doesn’t like the name of JESUS either, and doesn’t want it said anywhere, ESPECIALLY in baptism for the remission of sins.
“The Devil doesnt like the name of JESUS either, and doesnt want it said anywhere, ESPECIALLY in baptism for the remission of sins.”
Indeed. It amazes me how just talking with my fellow FReepers about the Christ is so uplifting.
Bless all of you
