Dr. Gene Scott. I watched him on TV years ago. Middle of the night for me. I think he was out of Los Angeles and I was living in NC at the time. Named one of my horses The Doctor is In. :)
I always enjoyed his teachings. I’ve got a Study Bible so filled with notes in the margins it’s almost unreadable.

Well, glory halleluja, someone remembers him.
I'm glad you got some good from him. We never did but he was Something Else. He was, I THINK the first, or one of the first, televangelists on the tube.

No, it was Dr. EUGENE SCOTT. He's passed away now but if you "google" him you will see his bio.
Someone DID ping me who knew of him. :o)

I remember him from years ago when I was afflicted by occasional insomnia. He wanted the audience to get "Holy beamers" so they could receive him direct from the satellite. Also I remember him getting upset when no one was calling to contribute, so he would just sit there smoking a cigar and say nothing. Lol - I also remember him showing videos of the yearling horse sales in Kentucky. I assume he owned some.

It was the Church of the Open Door in LA wasn't it?

From Google:
The Church of the Open Door was conceived by R. A. Torrey who had come to Los Angeles to start a Bible institute (now known as Biola University) similar to Moody Bible Institute. The church was to be strictly non-denominational, though Evangelical. Its purpose was to reach the lost of Los Angeles, which was reflected in the name based on two passages of Scripture: John 10:9 and Revelation 3:8. Other pastors have included Louis T. Talbot (1932–1948) and J. Vernon McGee (1949–1970). The current Pastor is Ed Underwood.
For 70 years the church was located in downtown Los Angeles on Hope Street. It relocated to Glendora, California in 1985.
Biola-1912-1916.jpg The original church building was located in downtown Los Angeles and was demolished in the late 1980s. Despite efforts led by the late William Eugene Scott to prevent the building from being sold to developers and to have the building saved as a historic landmark, the building could not be saved because it was so damaged in the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake that it was declared unsafe and the cost of repairs deemed prohibitive. The historic "Jesus Saves" sign from the original building can now be seen atop the Ace Hotel Los Angeles. It was relocated there by the late William Eugene Scott who took it with him when his church (Los Angeles University Cathedral) relocated following the earthquake.

Lol. I had forgotten about his horses!

It might make sense that if the land bridge was between Africa and Spain had dried out a bit, then when the sea level rose and it go wet, quake faults could have been lubricated and slipped aiding the flooding process along with scouring.
