The immense irony of the CDF having to protect the faith from a Pope appears lost on Muller.

Do we know for sure if he’s Catholic?

He doesn’t seem to be much of a real Catholic, either.

Pope Francis described the ongoing invasion of Europe by muslim men as a good thing.
Francis is a force for evil.
He is either evil himself. Or he is insane.

I don’t think there is a job description for pope, I don’t think St. Peter was a theologian.

I'm not so sure about that. It is possible Muller was playing dumb, a la Detective Columbo, to convey a message that, put too directly, would not be disseminated.

In a recent interview, Cardinal Gerhard Muller, the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), acknowledged that he must sometimes correct Pope Francis on matters of dogma, noting that the pope is not a "professional theologian." He approves of this statement.

I hope Cardinal Mueller doesn’t get Burked... We need people like him in the curia during this papacy.

Really? This may be the first time (in my lifetime) any Pope had to hide behind such an excuse of not knowing. ‘Not a Professional Theologian’? Sad thing is that’s probably the truth.
To: marshmallow
Heh. If this is true, many jokes will need rewriting.

This is unbelievable. Surely there is a mis-translation. How could this possibly be? Did he not study the Bible for decades? Go to schools of higher learning on the subject? He should have been surrounded by people who should be dwelling on the Bible. What did he do with his life other than praise socialism?

Pope Francis is not a 'professional theologian', but has been largely formed by his experiences in the field of the pastoral care, which is very different here with us [in the West]. Hogwash. This focus on "pastoral care" has been the focus since Vatican II.

From comments I've seen on this board not many catholics actually seem to know what they believe or the roman catholic church believes.
I really wonder what they learn in seminary.

Hopefully Cdl Muller is advising Pope Francis for his expected upcoming exhortation. Most expect it to be released on the feast of St Joseph, so in a few day’s from now. It will address the issue of administration of the Eucharist to the civilly divorced and remarried who have not received a declaration of nulity.
