Didn’t Billy Graham have on his website that Mormon was a cult?

After a meeting with Mitt Romney he took it down, much to the dismay of many. The REAL reason why that was done I don’t think was ever widely known.

If my recollection is correct here, I would have to say Mormonism is definitely not a Christian religion. While I am not a Baptist, I can assure you that Billy and Franklin Graham are 100% men of God, and their assessment of Mormonism is iron clad.

Any gospel other than the gospel of the grace of Christ (Gal 1:6) is suspect. Mormonism is a “gospel” of salvation by works and is thus condemned by scripture.

Total bigotry. They believe in Jesus as the Son of God , just like you and me. That is all that is required. All this other crap is ritualism and professional Christianity for money in a “church” which word was not even in the “WORD OF GOD” until 1611. List the requirements for salvation. Start with “1.” and then go numerically until the last one. Don’t leave any requirement out so we don’t mess up. Don’t say “works” or “tithe” Or you are blaspheming. Gives us your list.

NO! Nor is Mormonism the same as Christianity. It is a cult, started by a shyster con guy.

They try to use Christianity to lure people into their cult. Muslims will try to use Jesus to lure into their cult.

The problem starts when you have a man (Joseph Smith) who creates his own “interpretation” of scripture and then peddles it as truth. Muhammad did the exact same thing.

Thus both violated 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and Revelation 22:18-20.

What do the vast majority of FReepers consider Muhammed?
Who do they claim he worshipped?

It’s not hard to venture what both of their deeds brought upon them based on these verses.

Want to know real salvation?
From the Real Bible:

Romans 10:9-10 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

I hate arguing with an old Chaplain :-)

I guess my point is that only God can save (offer Salvation), not a mere man, (or Prophet).

I agree with that.

I just think Jesus said that He’d come to all who believe in Him through their (the apostles’ word). John 3:16 is the Apostle John’s record of Jesus.

“If a Mormon is reading John 3:16 in the KJV and believes in Jesus, Is he saved?”

If I believe that one verse, but walk around preaching that this “Jesus” actually returned to earth, and was reincarnated as Ronnie Van Zant and sang vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd..... am I saved?
It would seem that belief in Jesus is not real, unless you accept the baseline of what Christendom agrees Jesus to actually be.

>>> If a Mormon is reading John 3:16 in the KJV and believes in Jesus, Is he saved?

Depends on your definition of salvation.

True Christianity has one definition.

Mormons have several... beginning with resurrection from the dead just prior to the Great White Throne judgment. This is the first level of salvation (according to them), and represents the fruits of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Higher levels of salvation such as making it to the third heaven requires works.

I think your question is better stated this way:

Are all Mormons going to hell?

Answer: NO... Because I believe that some were saved prior to their being deceived and joining the Mormon church.

Are all Southern Baptists (or other Christian denoms) going to heaven???

Answer: NO... because many fail to take John 3:16 to heart, and never ask Jesus to become their savior.

The truth of the Gospel is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit... not by man’s religion. I suppose that there are those who grew up in the Mormon church and actually read John 3:16 for what it says, and became saved in response to God’s call upon their heart. When this happens though, it is usually followed by that person leaving the Mormon faith.

Precisely. Galatians sets so many errors right. I love Paul’s teaching from Christ. John, in his letters, also warned against antichrists. He shut Mohamed down before he ever started. This is the power of Scripture, it carries true authority from God (because His Spirit breathed it out).

Do you believe this verse: Rom 10:13

“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved?”

If so, then doesn’t that put the clean-up job in God’s care?

No it is not. Mormons believe in Jesus the Son of the Almighty Father.

Most non-Mormon Christians believe that Jesus is a three in one, one in three, sometimes three but never one, sometimes one but never three personality disorder first identified in the Nicene Creed in 325 AD

I don’t agree that you can accept Jesus with a wildly wrong theology. A few minor disagreements or misunderstandings is fine. This is the normal state within Christianity. Even fairly large ones such as the Catholic and Protestant differences.

But when you are off the charts wrong, it is not an acceptance of the reality. When some ancient Romans were happy to accept Christianity as another one of many gods, I wouldn’t accept that they were Christians.
At a bare minimum, you cannot believe in other Gods and that you become one.
So no....they are simply a successful cult.

I believe God overcomes bad theology to eventually get those who believe in His word to where He wants them to be.

Count on it.

He is faithful.

Believing in Jesus means that there is only one God. If you have other deities, or you can become one, you aren’t a Christian no matter how much you say you believe in Jesus. It isn’t bigotry, it’s a basic rule of the game.

Mormons are no more Christian than Santaria is.

Jesus Christ is not only the Son of God, but He is God and He is the Creator.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Christ is the Word. He’s not created like Satan was and He bears no relationship with Satan whatsoever other than Creator/created. In the end, Satan will be cast into the lake of fire to be mercilessly tortured for all eternity while Christ will rule heaven and be worshiped for all eternity.

A counterfeit is very close to the real thing but not close enough!

The mormons give us a counterfeit Christ. So do the moslems and many other groups that sprang up over the years.

Only if they ONLY call on the name of the lord. If you also call on Zeus, Allah, a Hopi dirt hole, Kolob, and Baal, then you are obviously not saved.
There’s a commandment about having no other gods.
