President-elect Donald Trump has promised to deport as many as 11 million immigrants who are undocumented, but recently backed off on that promise on a CBS 60 Minutes interview.
He declared he would focus on what he described as up to three million undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds, a number disputed by immigration advocates as exaggerated.
In a letter read out at Masses, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio promised immigrants in the Brooklyn diocese that they "will be the subject of our advocacy and protection as far as we can offer it to you."
"The law of God takes precedence over human laws and to this we must be witnesses," he added.
Bishop DiMarzio said the letter was intended to address the concerns of immigrants who "find themselves in a miserable situation because of a change in administration of our nation which has threatened many with deportation."
The Brooklyn diocese consists of the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, with an estimated 1.5 million Catholics, about half of whom are immigrants, both documented and undocumented.
Of the 196 parishes in the diocese, 107 provide Mass in Spanish and Mass is said to be celebrated in about 30 languages in Queens and Brooklyn.
The diocese prides itself on being a gateway point for generations of immigrants. Bishop DiMarzio came to Brooklyn in 2003, bringing experience that included advocacy for immigrants with his home Newark archdiocese and with the US Bishops' Conference.
Taking aim at the Trump administration's rationale for massive deportations, the Bishop wrote that such a step "will not guarantee security."
“Deportated”
(sigh)
Since their loyalty is to fraudulently documented foreigners and not to American citizens and the rule of law, maybe they should leave with the deported.......
Oy. Unbelievable.
If he’s talking about people who have filled out proper immigration forms and came in an organized way that our systems (education, etc) can deal with I’m with him .
If he’s labeling illegal aliens that our systems have difficulty accounting for as “immigrants”, I’m not. They have not immigrated, they broke laws to be somewhere they shouldn’t.
The law of God doesn’t say you have to bring savages into your country to rape your daughters.
They may have not broken God’s laws but they sure broke ours! They have absolutely no right to be here and should be deported as is the law of this land.
Whatever happened to that old thing about ‘render unto Caesar those things which are Caesar’s, and render unto God those things which are God’s’?
Indeed. "Thou shalt not steal".
Illegal immigrants send home $50 billion annually but cost taxpayers more than $113 billion
Then I suggest that the bishop take them in and be responsible for them and their actions.
So the Law of God mandates that countries cannot establish procedures for allowing immigrants into the country legally?
All these dopes act like the US isn't letting anyone in legally, or is trying to deport people who immigrated legally. Arguably, the type of posturing that this dope is doing is a sin -- self-aggrandizement based on imputing false motives to others.
When we have a completely unbacked, fiat currency, manipulated by the Federal Reserve, and massive, unlimited Fed.gov debt, we begin to believe that any any social engineering project is possible, and we crown ourselves as saviors.
Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's
The Church must follow American law, when that law does not order a sinful act. If they also want to help feed these criminals and terrorists, cloth them, and give them medical care as they head back home, that's fine. But the Church is subject to the laws of the country.
How ‘bout we start w/ terminating any/all ‘welfare’ (involuntary servitude)....Nobody can be against freeing the shackled, can they? Couple that w/ a termination of property taxes and everyone gets to pay for the services they so require (schools, fire, etc.).
Send out the word the lawbreakers have 6 months to get out of Dodge. Anyone STILL refusing to ‘correct’ their actions will then have the iron fist of govt. come down upon them (IMO, 2x-3x+ the fine/jail time for ANYONE aiding/abetting).
Let’s see what the good ol’ bishop will do after that. Maybe he can profess ‘sanctuary’ in Cuba, or Arabia /s
I'll interpret what the bishop is saying ...
"Please do not get rid of the people that 'could' fill my pews and 'could' fill my collection plates. This trumps any obedience to the federal laws of our country."

So point me to the specific scripture that says national boundaries are sinful! False teachers abound!
There we go again - Popes and Bishops getting into politics instaed of their religion - no wonder it is expected that the religions will all be replaced by a World Religion heading into the end times - I see this as another sign that what God told us is really happening....
Deport him to the Vatican. Or the hereafter.
