Again: Pope Francis Refuses to Kneel In Front of the Blessed Sacrament

Sunday night, Pope Francis celebrated Corpus Christi at the basilica of Saint John Lateran. For the first time this Pontifical celebration was moved from Thursday to Sunday. In his homily Francis called the Sacrament of the Altar "a humble meal, that lovingly heals our memory, wounded by life’s frantic pace of life."

He refused to genuflect at the consecration as well as in front of the Blessed Sacrament, which was exposed after Mass. Neither did he participate in the procession, but concluded it at Santa Maria Maggiore, while again refusing to kneel in front of the real presence of Our Lord.

Yes, making a bow instead of genuflecting is an option for the elderly or disabled clergy. That is what Francis does. The idiots try to make it into a sign of disrespect.

I have no problem with him bowing instead of genuflecting (I'm in my 60s with bad knees and if I genuflected someone would have to help me get back up - I bow and make the sign of the cross). I do take issue with the Sacrament of the Altar being a "humble meal" though...

I’m convinced he has very bad knees or hips and has gained considerable weight. He has had to be hoisted up from the floor by other priests on more than one occasion.

But, it does seem in order for an explanation to be well known, by now, given his many insults toward the Church Tradition and practices.

What is a “prie-dieu”?

A prie-dieu (French: literally, “pray [to] God”, plural prie-dieux) is a type of prayer desk primarily intended for private devotional use, but may also be found in churches. It is a small, ornamental wooden desk furnished with a thin, sloping shelf for books or hands, and a kneeler.

Usually, popes have plenty of healthy men ready to assist them in knoeeling and getting back up on their feet.

Many times, I have seen altar boys assist an elderly priest in genuflecting at the Consecration or kneeling during Benediction. I have no problems with handicapped elderly standing at the altar rail, nor does my priest.

Good point.

Oh! Thank you. I’m used to the English— a “kneeler” (although that is hardly exact for the shelf styled type).

I thought “prie-dieu” might be a movement or gesture. I see now that one might not be “offered” a gesture.

If you notice the photo in the posted article:

There is prie-dieu directly in front of the Francis, which he ignores.

Yes! And to your point, as your splendid photos of St. John Paul II prove, there are those rare ones who are willing to crawl through glass just to properly attend our Lord Jesus Christ and to receive Him.

Very moving photos demonstrating what a true witness to the Holy Sacrament looks like.

A true marxist is an atheist, and Francis is a marxist, and so does he believe in god?

Is that (future) Pope Benedict (Ratzinger) with PJPII?

What an amazing pic, if so.

Ditto this. Can a devout Catholic explain in common terms what this means.

don’t some older priests bow instead of kneel/genuflect?

I'm not a priest, but I bow instead of genuflecting. At my age, my knees won't take it any longer. Getting up from a genuflection is a real problem. At least when kneeling in a pew I can use the back of the pew in front of me to pull myself up.

Marsh, my mother had dual knee replacements, both the left and right at the same time. It was impossible for her to kneel. A genuflect was also a problem for her.

I don’t know if Francis has had his knees replaced, but that could be one reason.

I really can’t understand otherwise why he does not genuflect.

Very disturbing in view of the photo evidence he can and does kneel elsewhere, on top of his goofy “flexibility” mandate.

Does anyone recall which visionary said we were to have a “bad pope” before the return of Christ? Would like to find the exact words; whether it was “bad pope” or “false pope,” and who exactly delivered that message.

Pope Francis kneeling on a prie dieu.

The image dates to 2015 on a blog post entitled: Pope Francis Comes Out in Favor of Genuflecting. The blogger cites Francis' comment on kneeling "How I wish...that Christians could kneel in veneration when a poor person enters the church." but notes that he wasn't talking about genuflecting to Christ. He raises some good questions.
