The Lord said, James, after these things I shall reveal to you everything, not for your sake alone but for the sake of the unbelief of men, so that faith may exist in them, a Coptic fragment reads.
He seeks to reassure his brother everything is as it should be. He describes heaven. He gives James the passwords necessary to guarantee his entry. He gives advice on fighting supernatural challenges. He foretells future events. He warns James of the circumstances surrounding his own martyrdom.
Many other Early Christian texts, some of them immensely popular, were among those banned. Names include the Epistle of Barnabas, The Shepherd of Hermas, The Magdalene Gospel and The Gospel of Judas. Yet others were attributed to more familiar authors including Matthew, Mark, John and Peter.
But chief among them was likely to be one key concern: Was it the real deal? Three hundred and thirty years is a lot of time for fan fiction to rise and circulate, after all.

Oh, okay. I interpreted your comment as ‘why do people commit sucide?’
As for his suicide, he hung himself (Matthew 27:5) and then bought some land whereof to fall down and explode (Acts 1:18). Since there are no biblical contradictions, one can only be awestruck at his creative determination. His mission complete, he wanted to die at his own hand, rather than miss the spectacle he had in mind. ;}
I wonder why he went out and bought land, first.
Was he really that fastidious?
The thirty pieces of silver was blood money. Also the price of a slave. He took the money back to those who funded the betrayal. The religious leadership could not have him telling the story. Psalms 22 foretold what would be.
You talk about rules, I talk about what I see and hear via online discussion by laity.

Looks like another fakery find.....a dime a dozen anymore...
It’s not a hoax. And no one is saying it is canonical.
....”He describes heaven. He gives James ‘the passwords’ necessary to guarantee his entry”.....
Now THAT sounds like it’s straight out of the mormon dialogue...secrets and passwords abound!
They wrote of passwords and secrets ....you know it's phony stuff.
Imaginations running wild back then when they thought everything had a spirit or demon hiding in the bushes. People were highly superstitious with plenty of historical finds to show that was the case.
Well the title certainly speaks of it being a “bible book”.....so there you have it....if it’s just a literature find then present it so instead of misleading the readers...which it does.
If I could get rid of click-bait headlines I’d do it in a minute. Here’s an unrelated tip. When a headline asks a question, the answer is usually “no.” LOL
Here in the Philippines, I am in the belly of the beast, as far as superstitions go. Even some of the Christians are caught up in this. I have had to straighten out a few of them. Most of them believe in global warming too. I straightened them out on that too. 😊
Heretical ‘textbook’ of the teachings of Gnosticism would have been far more accurate.
‘Fan fiction’ sounds less hysterical, though.
Oh you have your hands full there in the Philippines.......Asians of all persuasions seem to have issues with superstitions......I see this even when they become westernized.
I guess I can see his point, but that would be a
Hard one for me to do.
Well, they say everybody
wants to go the heaven,
but nobody wants to die.
I have been a Catholic for 66 years. I used to travel extensively, I have read hundreds of books and met thousands of Catholics, and I have never met one --- not one --- who held such a belief, nor have I heard of such a thing until 2 minutes ago when I read what you wrote.
Name one Catholic who believes your "physical object" nonsense.
Or concede that your statement has no foundation.
There is one other option. You said "RCs" believe this. Perhaps you're referring to yourself, RegulatorCountry?
