Remember in the late sixties and early seventies on Saturday mornings or possibly Sunday mornings real early (around maybe 5 or 6 a.m.) there used to be a type of playhouse 90 Christian drama that was staged on live sets? There was 50s type of jazz music playing for background.
A contemporary Christian setting in that they were depicting people living in cities in modern times that had issues that were biblical nature.
Does anybody remember those shows? And if so do you remember the name of those programs? And if they are available to view online anywhere?
I think about those shows quite a bit cuz I was a young teen and I used to watch them. They were very dry theatrical Productions kind of that Playhouse 90 format. And they were probably recorded live as on a theatrical stage.
I just remember “Davey and Goliath.”
IIRC Mad TV did a hilarious parody of those (well, hilarious like “Raging Rudolph” was hilarious).
“This is the Life”. is one... Lutheran sponsored as I recall.
Would love to see them! I only saw a few because we went to church weekly, and they were aired on Sunday mornings…maybe??

That was Dave Christiano’s thing, IIRC.
I corresponded with Dave a couple of decades back (almost).

The one episode I remember (from whichever show) had a guy* who spent the entire time arguing with a sentient computer. It was actually pretty good! Usually that show weirded me out.
*played by the actor who was the old man opposite Freddie Prinz on “Chico and The Man.”

I also remember our local station running Garner Ted Armstrong’s prophecy/news program.

Wikipedia also lists a show called Insight—another anthology show—produced by Catholics.
Guideposts also had a show.
Plus, one of the highest weekly rated shows was Bishop Sheen.
Can’t imagine that today (though it is sorely needed).

I dont’ remember that one, but I do remember some kind of long form commercials that used to run, they were sort of like infomercials, but they were little dramas. I think they were done by the Mormons/LDS, but I could be wrong about that. One I’m quite sure had John Astin (who played Gomez Addams) in it.
