The fundamental disconnect between socialism and Christianity is that Christian charity is based upon the free choice of the giver, and socialism is based upon compulsion by the State.

Jesus didn't go to Caesar, tell him to increase taxes, and then distribute that money to the poor. He encouraged the wealthy to make donations from their own heart to help the poor.

Not sure why that distinction is so often overlooked.
