A friend from Get Religion sent me a link to an exclusive story about the prayer written by Rod Dreher, a fine writer for The American Conservative.

My cousin is a Yoga instructor. She is in her mid 60s and looks around 40. She is also a practicing Christian. Yoga is exercise.

The “Pastor” Freemyer’s of the world are why I gave up on organized religion when I was in my twenties. The religion on which my wife and I were both raised formed one of the rationales for our marrying, but soon after, we realized that we had been “bull$hitted” from infancy about the importance of “our religion” and “staying true our faith.” It doesn’t matter what faith it was, in our minds, ALL of it was BS! And BTW, we will be celebrating our 53rd Wedding Anniversary this coming December, and we married 5 months to the day from the day we met! We hold to a basic belief in God and Christianity and don’t want any part of those who “run the God Businesses,” which is what churches really are. I am all done having someone who is at best no better a person than I am, telling me that “I am not good enough, but with his help and a helping of my money. he will make me a ‘better person.’” It is not rocket science to live a good life. Either you choose to do so, or you don’t. The kicker is that our children have all thanked us for not shackling them with the crap on which we were raised. All three of them and their spouses are good people, raising good children. I think God is proud of them too.
