I’m in this archdiocese. It has at least 3 parishes in rural areas with congregations of about 100. One of them offered the Tridentine mass monthly until the priest died in his 80’s.
Great news. Had no real idea of the measure of strength in the area of this church in question.
Seeing the size and beauty of the church exterior, one could think the number of people of the parish had been hollowed out, due to the off the rails contingency, and that not enough faithful even remain to support it.
Thank you for enlightening me. Certainly, I pray for restoration and I love Bishop Sample!
I believe I went to the Saturday Mass at this church when I was visiting family in Vancouver, WA, about 5 years or so ago. I was struck by the fact that about 25 people were at Mass and I was one of the younger ones present. The church gave off a liberal vibe. It also gave me the impression then that it was a dying Parish. I do not recall any liturgical abuses while there but perhaps with so few parishioners present, they just wanted to attend Mass and go home. It was very sad to see the state of affairs there. I wish the new priest success in his efforts to return the Parish to the Church.
I grew up in one of those—or one you don’t know about (in Coos County)—and not the one with the EF.
Harp considers himself a devout Catholic. He starts every morning with mediation and prayer and prays the Hail Mary at least once a day. He tries to attend Mass every Sunday. When he was in his 20s, he said he wanted to follow every rule he could. Now he questions how those rules bring him closer to God
Not a single thing on that list gives a person salvation.
Not one.
I wonder... is that the coastal parish with the Allstock lawsuit and huge payout, and embarrassing bishop apology performance?
“he questions how those rules bring him closer to God
If they’re God’s rules, why question?
attending mass and praying a rosary are not Gods rules. They are man are and as such have no power to save. Only faith in Jesus Christ alone can save
man made
Changing back to Novus Ordo liturgy isn’t fully Catholic. Changing back to Tridentine would make them fully Catholic.
You’re right about Vlazny, and yes, we are so fortunate to have Archbishop Alexander Sample. Please pray for him.
“Keep holy the Lord’s Day” is a commandment.
Is that still in your Bible? Or did Luther take it out?
Attending catholic mass is not a commandment in my Bible or any other. There are many ways to keep the Lords day Holy. Attending the service of a particular denomination every Sunday will not save you no matter how highly the denomination thinks of itself. But Luther certainly lives rent free in your head. Maybe if you study what he said/did you might learn something.
For Catholics — Keep holy the Lord’s Day — means attending Mass.
Please don’t try to tell us what to believe.
To bad you're in for such a rude awakening when you find out what "faith" really entails.
I hate the thought of people going to hell with Bibles in their hands, but it is what it is....
Im. Or telling you what to believe. Im simply stating that it is nowhere in the Bible
I understand totally and completely what faith means and have total assurance I will be in Heaven. Thank you for your concern
The only impenetrable barrier to truth is the incorrect presumption you already have it: and you don't.
How you guys can equate our temporal problems with your theological inconsistencies, doctrinaire incredulity, and extra-biblical inferences is beyond me.
For Catholics Keep holy the Lords Day means attending Mass.
Yet, mass is not in Scripture...
