The Incomparable Christ
The Reason For My faith ^ | 12/20/20 | Unknown

.....................

There are several versions of this poem on the internet. Some say the author is unknown.
Some attribute the poem to Samuel Porter Jones, a 19th Century Methodist evangelist.
The version I offer is a compilation from several sources. Not knowing for certainty
as to whom the human author is, I prefer to credit the Holy Spirit. Praise God

The Incomparable Christ

“He came from the throne of the Father to the womb of a woman.
He put on humanity that we might put on divinity.
He became Son of Man that we might become sons of God.
He was born in a supernatural way, lived in poverty and was reared in obscurity.
He had neither wealth nor influence, yet the wisdom of men has never matched His wisdom.
Never has a man spoken like this man.
His family was inconspicuous and
.
In infancy He startled a king.
As a boy, He stunned theologians with His knowledge and wisdom for He was taught of God.
In manhood, He ruled the elements and quieted the raging sea.
He healed the multitudes without medicine.
And fed thousands from a boy’s lunch.
Even demons obeyed Him and He gave back life to those who died.

He never wrote a book, yet none of the libraries of the world can contain the books that have been written about Him.
He never wrote a song, yet He has furnished the theme of more songs than all song writers combined.
He never founded a college, yet all the colleges together cannot boast of as many students as He has.
He never marshaled an army, yet no leader has ever had more volunteers.
Great men have come and gone yet He lives all.

Herod could not kill him.
Satan could not tempt Him to sin.
Death could not destroy him.
The grave could not hold Him.
He laid aside His purple robe for a peasant’s gown.
He was rich yet for our sakes He became poor.
He slept in another’s manger.
He rode on another’s donkey.
He was buried in another’s grave.
He conquered death and rose on the third day as He said He would.

He ascended into heaven and is now at the right hand of the throne of God.
One day He will return with power and great glory to judge the world when every knee shall bow to Him and every tongue shall confess Him as Lord.
His friends gladly.
But enemies seeking for a place to hide from His face.

He is the perfect one.
The only one who can satisfy the soul.
He gives everlasting life to those who love Him.
He is altogether lovely.

I sure wish someone could describe him for us.

I am not trying to be flippant, but how can this be? For all the books that have been written, this a great mystery still?

But let's say someone came along and did just that. Provided his hair color and eye color. DOB. Address and phone. Where he's been and what he's been doing. Listed his skillsets. Described his voice. And does he cook? Own guns? Tend literal sheep? Own a milk cow? Drive a truck? Vote Trump?

No matter --- a person with such info would be ridiculed and accused of all sorts of mental issues.

A person who knew all of that would know what to expect, and just let everyone be surprised and shocked.

Why tell man what they do not have the faith to believe?

A step at a time for earthly infants..man still thinks he is wise...lol..like watching babies soil themselves not even knowing..

That’s wonderful, Chuck. Thanks for blessing us with it. I’ll reread it tomorrow—and who knows, perhaps the next day and the next....

I understand. No, you didn’t come off as flippant. We all know that men would worship a lock of His hair had Marry kept it in a baby book.

We are to believe in faith, not by seeing. Heck, even those who were closest to Him for 3 years and witnessed all the miracles, found it difficult to believe He was Whom He told them He was.

His own Mother was told what He would be one day. Yet with her other sons, she came to get him one day because they thought Him to be delusional and out of His mind.

So knowing all that they knew first hand, having pictures, trophies, and the World’s knowledge of Him and what He did, would never help one person to be saved. That’s because, then He would have been nothing more than an ancient hero, Not the Son of God Who shed His blood and died for us to be saved.

No, with out having faith in Who He is without proof, is what will save the lost, not proof the World needs. Thus, God’s Wisdom is foolish to man, because man’s wisdom, is just folly for the final fire.

I reread it and found it even better the second time through. The key to it is the several contrasts it so cleverly and perceptively draws. That aspect is rather magnificent.

It is a bit rough around the edges, though: it needs editing and polishing. I might take a crack at it if the Spirit gives me the

My prayers for you to do so. I had did some editing on it some years back, but then it sat in a file of things I had planned to eventually do more work on. The years have wained on and it became forgotten. I have many things I began through the last 6 years, but writers block got a hold of me as I found myself mired in a swamp of despair and anger. In the last 6 years I kept regurgitating things I wrote and doing small changes just to share them, but nothing new was coming out of my grey matter.

Then, the Lord reinvigorated me recently, and I am again on fire as the block God put on my writing abilities has returned with a vengeance. The Holy Spirit has been directing me and He brought it to my attention as I was doing a word search on my files for something else. So I pulled it out and planned on editing it more, then decided to just post it as I had it.

It could be delivered in a better form. Some changing around of the points and formatted to fit a paragraph or two, and it could make for a good devotional.

You have my blessings, and I’m sure whoever originally wrote it or began it did as I, wrote it, forgot about it, posted it, then it got picked up by others who edited it and posted it and as time went on, it is what we see.

When and if, you do so, ping me. I would like to see what you did. Remember to give the Holy Spirit the proper credit, since it is His work after all. A work I guess of the whole body of His Church.

God bless you brother.

Chuck

Thanks, Chuck. Your blessing turns one of those three lights green; the other two are the Spirit’s Okeedokee and my interest, both still to be determined.

Merely human wisdom has never matched His: never has a man spoken like this man.

He never founded a college, yet all the colleges together do not have as many students and disciples as learn from Him.
He never marshaled an army, yet no leader has ever had more volunteers.
Great men have come and gone, yet He outshines and outlives them all.

His friends gladly seek Him, but His enemies search for a place to hide from Him.

He is the perfect one, the only one who can truly and fully satisfy the soul.
He gives everlasting life to those who love Him.
He is altogether lovely.

How about:

He slept in another’s manger, He rode on another’s donkey,
He bore another's sins, He was buried in another’s grave.

Yes, I actually heard those in a more recent version of this one.

But it should be added. Especially if you format it out in a letter form for a devotioonal.

I have no publishing plans for it all. I merely rendered the Good Samaritan treatment and patched it up for the fun of it.
