The Trinity is all about Love. The Trinity is heart-warming. It is the Trinity that makes human loving family relationships possible , , , but first let is "get the math out of the way."
All orthodox Christians are Trinitarians, that is, we believe there is one God who exists in three Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit..
Unfortunately many people get bogged down in the seemingly mathematical contradiction involved in 1 yet 3.
Forget trying to solve the 1 yet 3 thingy -- that's impossible to solve. Why? Because there is nothing on this earth comparable to 1 yet 3. Here on the 1 yet 3 truth, we must rely only on revealed truth {revelation .. the Bible}. God says He is 1 yet 3 and therefore God is 1 yet 3.
Now to the heart-warming elements of the Holy Trinity: {as a human being you can warmly relate to all that follows}
Within the Holy Trinity there is the following:
■ Family -- the Three separate Persons are Family. They function like a Family.
■ Love -- the Three separate Persons love each other dearly.
■ Communication and conversation -- the Three separate Persons talk to each other in loving relationships.
■ Family Relationships -- the Three separate Persons immensely enjoy their I -You relationship.
■ Close friendship and close fellowship -- the Three Persons enjoy their close friendship relationships. They are Friends.
We were made in God's image and this is why we all crave all that up there also. God desires all the above. We also desire all the above. We humans crave love and friendship and loving family relationships because we are made in the image of God and that image is in us forever.
{By the way, there is a difference in WHAT and WHO. God is 1 yet 3 in His BEING. His being is WHAT He is. God is 1 yet 3 in PERSONS. His Personhood is WHO He is.}
Back to Love and Family Relationships , , ,
We are capable of loving our family members because God is a Family -- a Family of 3. We are made in His image. If God were 1 in 1, instead of 1 yet 3, we would be incapable of enjoying loving family relationships.
The fact that God is 1 yet 3 is what makes us social creatures who crave love and friendship and loving family relationships. We were made in the image of God.
By the way, God, as early as Genesis, said let US make man in OUR image and in OUR likeness. Genesis 1:26. We understand from the New Testament that Genesis 1:26 was an early reference to the Holy Trinity.
These three remain: Faith, Hope, and Love. But the greatest of these is Love.

The Trinity is the result of how the Creator of the Universe created His Universe. Think of it as the One Creator having three avatars to interact with the beings in His creation.

Whether or not you accurately capture what you are reverencing, that’s backwards, and your second sentence smacks of Modalism.
The Creator of the universe created the universe this way to reflect the nature of the Trinitarian relationships.
Glorious truth! Not sure how much of a Mathematical contradiction. Physics using mathematics has show light is both a wave and a particle at the same time. Jesus is the Light of the world. Grin!
Too many humans discount or outright ignore this factor/ It is seen nowhere in the text above.
Unless one longs for and values righteouness in oneself and others, there is no need for Jesus' kind of righteousness manifested through His love for both His Father and the humans He would redeem, justify, and sanctify, if they would permit.

The Major Heresies
Historically, the Church’s elaborated doctrine about the Trinity developed by the meditation of the saints on the Bible, especially the Gospels and St. Paul. This reflection gave rise to many errors which the Church rejected in the early Councils and in the various decrees of the Successor of St. Peter, the Pope in Rome.
Heresies and errors about the Trinity can be classified in the following way: 1) the unity of the divine nature is denied so that you have some form of tritheism, that is, three gods joined together is some kind of moral unity.
2) Or, a real trinity of persons is denied. This comes in two forms: a) Monarchianism or Modalism: those holding these positions deny a real personal distinction between Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They say that there is only a “rational distinction” between them, or they call them “modes.”
b) Subordinationism: those holding this position deny implicitly or explicitly the true divinity of the Second and Third Persons, who are creatures and are subordinated to the first person who alone is really God.
These errors come from the difficulty of the mystery of the Trinity and from the confusion between nature and person. They are also related to false ideas about God deriving from the doctrines of the Stoics and Neo-Platonists about the aeons and the emanations from God. The Gnostics tried to adapt these ideas to Christian dogma. And of course, errors made here about the inner nature of God affect one’s view of who Jesus Christ is and so have an impact on Christology.
Monarchianism takes two forms: a) Adoptionist Monarchianism which says that Christ was a mere man, but was adopted by God as his Son at his Baptism in the Jordan; b) Modalist Monarchianism which says that there is only one Person in God who manifests himself variously as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So these names, for them, all refer to the one Person in God — they are synonyms for the one Person in God. A chief proponent of this was Sabellius about 220 A.D. Thus, it is often called Sabellianism.
Subordinationism accepts three Persons in God, but denies the consubstantiality of the Son and the Holy Spirit with the Father, and therefore their true divinity. They are exalted creatures produced by the First Person. One view says that the Father created the Son, and the Son created the Holy Spirit. The main proponents of this view were the priest Arius and his followers in the 4th century; the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D., the first ecumenical council, was called to combat this error. Those who denied the divinity of the Holy Spirit in the second half of the 4th century were called Macedonians after Bishop Macedonius who was deposed in 360.
Tritheism means that one holds that there are three gods. Those who were accused of this were Roscelin of Compiegne (+ about 1120), Gilbert of Poitiers (+1154), and Abbot Joachim of Fiore (+1202).
(From ICU Courses at International Catholic University. I quote here for you, so as to gently suggest to any lurkers and readers that your metaphor would be consistent with Modalistic Monarchianism rather than Trinitarian orthodoxy. I understand from your referenced article that you do not accept the inspiration of the Bible.)
Jesus, in His John 14 explanation, said that all the disciple could see of the Father was where The Father intersected their spacetime limits: "I am in the Father and The Father is in Me. If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father."
Our spacetime coordinate system limits our capabilities to see very real dimensional reality no further away than the length of you forearm, as illustrated in Daniel 5 and elsewhere.
The third member of the Trinity of the One God is the Holy Spirit Whom Jesus told His disciples HE would send after His Ascension. Thus God is proven for the faithful to be expressing His Oneness in three distinct manifestations while being One.
First, "God is love" is a statement that predates creatures: the three Persons have loved One Another always, as you captured so eloquently.
Second, and peculiarly, the ubiquitous "love songs" that dominate the media can often be better understood when God is substituted for the one being pined for.
Third, this very day this was featured in my Bible in Paintings post:
.
ECCLESIASTES 4
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. |

. .
I believe in one God, eternally manifesting Himself in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.
Good to hear from you MHG! Hope all is well in your corner.
Did you read that pamphlet which submareener linked, the UToE?
Did you agree with me that his analogy is Monarchianism?
I said that he does not believe in inspiration of scripture, which the writer of the article probably would affirm, but what I really mean is the perspicuity of Scripture. It is very common to affirm these days Bible Inspiration while sweeping away its meaning.
The ‘trinity’ occurse no where in the Bible
:D Absolutely! Thanks for posting.
the word bible doesn’t either, and yet...
This is really dangerous nonsense. Jesus, the Son, said He came from The Father, also said that the only unforgivable sin was to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. That is the Trinity, and it is in the Bible.
Luke 12
8†“Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me †before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. 9“But he who †denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God. 10“And †anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.
Nelson, Thomas. Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (p. 1011). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.
To deny the Trinity is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. To deny the Trinity is to deny that Jesus was the Son of God The Father and came in the flesh. That road leads to Perdition.
Your fingers were trying to warn you when they typed “ocCURSE” Take the hint!
Gen 9:16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
yeah,... right.
“Dangerous” and “nonsense” That’s a compelling argument
Thanks and thank you for reading my Opening Post and thanks for the pics too.
God bless.
